This was an experience that has furthered my interest and motivated me to approach Jeff and seek further tuition online between visiting the US. David H. says, "Laura & her very talented staff are AMAZING! Not only are the lessons fun, but my kids absolutely adore practicing due to the academy's practice help which taught them how to practice and have fun while doing it. (That alone was well worth the cost of lessons!) Practicing is one thing my kids hated doing before when they had different teachers. I was so impressed by their curriculum that even I started taking music lessons! Now my whole family can jam together like the Jackson 5 & we have so much fun. I HIGHLY RECOMEND SIGNING UP WITH MONMOUTH & MIDDLESEX COUNTY MUSIC ACADEMY!! Do your family the favor & start lessons with them TODAY! YOUR KIDS & SPOUCE WILL THANK YOU! P.S. you WILL NOT find better QUALITY MUSIC LESSONS ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THEIR PRICE!!!" Read more

Been singing my whole life. Been in multiple singing groups throughout my younger years. Had a short stint on American Idol. I can show you the foundational tools you need to sing the right way. And then once we set the foundation I can grow the power and tone of your voice. I've also been playing guitar on and off for 16 years, but especially the last 4 years I've been practicing every single day. And I've built a strong music theory knowledge as well as learned most of the cool tricks. I can show you how to play the basics, then move on to more interesting chords as well as how to solo in many different ways to any song! Reach out!! I'

Your Guitar Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do guitar lessons cost near me?

Guitar lessons cost $35 to $70 per lesson, depending on if they last 30 minutes or up to 1 hour. If it's a one-on-one lesson, it'll cost around $45 to $70 hourly. Learning guitar in a group is cheaper at $25 to $35 per session.

If you're taking lessons every month, it adds up to $170 to $315 with the typical prepaid discount.

Are guitar lessons worth it?

Guitar lessons are worth it since only a professional teacher giving you live feedback can guide you to learn faster. A good instructor helps you understand your mistakes and prevents you from developing bad habits.

Learning guitar by yourself takes a lot longer and won't prepare you as well to play in public.

At what age should I start guitar lessons?

Children can start guitar lessons from the ages of 6 to 10, or when they can comfortably hold the guitar and press the strings. Adults can start guitar lessons at any age, provided they practice regularly and patiently.

How many guitar lessons do I need?

The number of guitar lessons you need varies according to your goal and your practice routine. For many people, it typically takes about 2 to 6 months to play a simple tune. Mastering the guitar like a professional can take anywhere from 4 to 10 years.

What do you learn in guitar lessons?

In most guitar lessons, you can expect to learn:

  • How to correctly position your fingers to play chords
  • How to tune your guitar
  • How to play various scales
  • New techniques for plucking and strumming
  • How to read sheet music.

Are online guitar lessons good?

Online guitar lessons cost $35 to $55 per hour and are good for getting personal instruction from skilled teachers worldwide. Take advantage of flexible scheduling and immediate feedback while learning new guitar-playing styles. Plus, you can easily record lessons to review their advice later.

How do I find the best guitar lessons near me?

In order to find the best guitar lessons for you, look through nearby teachers listed here on the Lessons website. You can also ask for teachers at local music stores or community colleges.

Before you hire a guitar teacher, make sure to:

  • Check out prices from at least 3 different teachers.
  • Read their reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Ask for a list of their current or previous students that you can talk to.
  • Talk to other parents about the teacher's reputation with their children.
  • Make sure you get a written agreement and schedule before your first lesson.
  • Avoid making a big payment upfront for a month of lessons until you're comfortable with the teacher.

What questions do I ask when choosing a guitar teacher?

To find the right guitar teacher, you can ask them these questions:

  • What kind of music degree do you have?
  • How many years of experience do you have in teaching guitar?
  • Can I have a free trial lesson to see if your teaching style helps me?
  • What is the average age of your students?
  • Will you assign me finger exercises as homework?
  • How often should I practice between lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and where can I buy used ones?
  • How many guitar-playing styles are you an expert in?
  • Can you modify your teaching style to suit my learning abilities?
  • What should I bring to our lessons, and how long is each one?
  • Can I get a copy of our schedule, agreement, and payment terms?
  • What is your policy if I have to cancel a class due to an emergency?
  • Can I choose some of my favorite songs to learn on the guitar?

I have been getting guitar lessons with Bryan for over two years. As a forty something year old, who can be very stuck in his ways, Bryan has been abundantly patient with my slow learning process. He is thoroughly knowledgable of the guitar, adapts to my learning curve, finds real life examples that helps move me along in the right direction. So very thankful I decided to go with Bryan as my teacher. He does the music world good simply being the kind of teacher he is.

I am a graduate from Berklee school of music with a master in jazz studies. I studied music in an academic setting my entire life. But then, I discovered that I was thought the fast way. The way to just get a gig. I then through a friend discovered joe Solomon. Joe’s teaching is the way to internalize the language of music. It’s the way to have a voice and a vocabulary. Not only to get a gig but to feel and experience music. Joe changed my way of seen music forever. He is an amazing musician as well as an amazing human been. If you are serious about Music you must have lessons with Mr. Solomon. He will change your life.

I HIGHLY recommend Stu as a music teacher. The library where I work (Norfolk Library in Norfolk, CT) offered a 6-week adult harmonica class with Stu. In addition to working with Stu on the logistics of the course as a library employee, I also attended as a student. In both regards, Stu is an excellent teacher and presenter. As a presenter, he clearly communicated with the library in a timely manner. We were well prepared for offering the course. As a student, I enjoyed Stu's teaching style immensely! He is patient and encouraging and we had a lot of fun in the course. Several of the other students in the course have all shared that they found Stu to have excellent teaching skills. In fact, the students and the Library were so pleased with the class, we are offering a 6-week Harmonica II class to begin in May.

I came to guitar late. I had one never got around to learning how to play it. We had a flood in our basement and I came home to it floating right past me. Fast forward, my girlfriend got me an electric and a few lessons with Chris Merola. 2 years on, still going. I didn’t know a thing, now I play, might even get a band together!?

Joe is very easy to talk to and work with. He picked songs he knew I would like and were also challenging to play. He broke the songs into parts I could learn. Joe showed me hand exercises to really improved my playing. He has a great personality and as a teacher , he is extremely knowledgeable in music and was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend joe as a bass teacher to anyone.
