Hello and thank you for looking into my profile. I begin every initial lesson interview with the same key questions: "What do you want to learn?" What vision of yourself do you wish to achieve at the keys? What sounds move you (and which don't)? Do you have a few songs/pieces you'd like to jump into right now? Or would you like a more systematic approach to music, building from the ground up? Whatever your answers may be to the above, my purpose as your guide is to get you from where you are to where you want to be in the shortest period of time, by providing you with the background, tools, and shortcuts (trust me, there are plenty!) that are ... Boca Raton Piano Instruction

Jamila Saha · Boca Raton, FL

What or who inspired you to start teaching?

I have had a never-ending love affair with music. My earliest childhood memories are of trying to play everything I heard on the piano, classical, jazz and Brazilian jazz. My formal education began at the Harlem School of the Arts, where I studied with Dr. Armenta Adams a concerto winner of Juilliard School of Music who studied with world renowned pianist Sascha Gorodnitzki. One of my greatest inspirations for teaching is wanting to carry on the legacy of my first piano teacher as well as carry on the teachings which come directly from the Russian Piano School via

Josef Lhévinne. I am very proud of the knowledge I learned from my first piano teacher Armenta Adams. What I learned from her can't be found in books and comes directly from her professor at Julliard studying with Josef Lhévinne. Practicing slowly with consciousness , in addition to many valuable techniques for mastering difficult and challenging passages, building a strong solid technique, playing with expression. She taught me to build a powerful command of the piano. However, what I learned from internationally renowned pianist Kemal Gekic is to always bring out the melody, always understand the harmonic analysis of the music you are playing and especially about the life of the composer who wrote the music.

What was he or she going through in their life? What was the political climate at the time? There is so much more that goes into learning a piece of music beyond just learning the notes and I want so much to share this with all who want to learn about artistry and make beautiful music, whatever genre they wish to play.

From Dr. Burleson who has been such an incredible educator and extraordinary pianist; is always try to play the music the way the composer would have wanted, honor the intent of the composer. He showed me to examine every detail every nuance and if it works for the period the music was written in.

So I have such a wealth of knowledge about music and piano artistry, technical development, how to prepare for auditions, competitions and jury exams and I want to share this information.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all types of students children as young as 3-4, to retired seniors who have always wanted to learn to play the piano. As well as seniors who began learning the piano to stay mentally sharp and alert and ended up loving the piano. I have taught jazz to students with a classical background transitioning into jazz. I understand this journey very well for it is part of my journey as well. I have taught students preparing for auditions to prestigious conservatives, helped students prepare for auditions to play in the band for the Navy and were accepted out of thousands of applicants due to my training.

It is so rewarding to see a student master a difficult or challenging passage of piece of music they thought they could never play because it was so difficult!

Tell us about your passion for teaching

I then went on to continue my education at Manhattan School of Music and the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts where I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jazz Piano Performance. After years performing Jazz and other popular genres in the NYC tri-state area, I decided to return to my roots of classical music and went on to earn my MM in Piano Performance at Florida International University studying with world-renowned international pianist Kemal Gekic.

I have participated in master piano classes with legendary pianists, Awadagin Pratt, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Dr. Georffrey Burleson, John Lewis and Norman Simmons. I have also had the pleasure of studing jazz improvisation and performing with Maestro Nestor Torres and the illustrious Ron Carter. Each one of these legendary and brilliant musicians helped to bring out what I feel is a rare combination of exceptional technical skills, musical sensitivity and a passionate release of raw emotions. I have performed, recorded and taught in the NY/Tristate area, Canada, (South Florida from) Miami-Boca Raton, South America and the Caribbean.
