Gay K. says, "I've been studying with Andrew Jankura who owns Soul Keys Studio for over two years now and he is truly a fantastic piano teacher. He can play and teach any genre, and although we have focused on jazz, we have also worked on holiday music and my favorite: the blues. He is patient, thorough and very creative in our lessons, making them challenging but fun. I have taken both in-person and online lessons from him and enjoyed them both. He has a true gift for teaching and loves to nurture new players. I honestly can't recommend him highly enough. I've taken music lessons for many years playing other instruments and all of my teachers pale in comparison. I feel myself improving every week that I work with Andrew. He is a consummate professional and is extremely dedicated to his students. If you're looking for a piano teacher - look no further! You have found one of the best. And he's affordable, too. All this in one teacher. You really can't go wrong studying with Andrew. Extremely highly recommended!" Read more

I provide the convenience of lessons in my students' homes - I bring the music to you! I am one of few teachers in the Sarasota, FL area to offer the WunderKeys Piano Program for Preschoolers, age 3-5 but I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I began teaching piano lessons in 1981. I have taught students as young as three and as old as 81. My music education includes more than one year of study at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a brief study of organ with the late Keith Chapman, Concert Organist/Composer. I have a Master's degree in Education and am an accomplished pianist. I have served as church pianist/...

Hey there! I'm Esahm, I've been playing the saxophone for nearly 17 years and have performed in nearly every context from Jazz Big Band and orchestras, to Rock bands, Wedding Bands, Pop Stage Performances, and more. Attending Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts gave me the foundation to pursue music on my own terms, and I've been a public performer ever since. I practice a form of teaching that is highly adaptive to my students needs and personal musical passions, opting to encourage them to pursue music in a way that keeps them excited and focuses on what they really want to explore. Your Piano Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are piano lessons?

Piano lessons cost $40 to $80 per hour, depending on the location, their experience level, and session length. A piano lesson package costs $180 to $350 for five 1-hour lessons. Children's piano lessons and online lessons often cost less than average.

Piano lessons are available for all ages in most cities in the country. Music instructors teach:

  • Music theory
  • Sight-reading
  • Improvisation
  • How to improve playing or technique

At what age should you start piano lessons?

The best age to start piano lessons is 5 to 9 years, though learning how to play the piano doesn't have an age limit. Playing the piano strengthens fine motor skills, increases flexibility, and improves your memory no matter how old you are.

Are piano lessons worth it?

Piano lessons are worth the money and effort invested over time. Playing an instrument can be beneficial for mental health, and cognitive strength. For smaller budgets, book just a few lessons to get the basics down and continue on your own.

How long are piano lessons?

Piano lessons for beginners or children are typically 30 to 45 minutes per session. Intermediate or advanced lessons are 45 to 60+ minutes per session. Most people have 1 to 2 lessons per week.

Can you learn to play piano online?

Yes, you can learn to play piano online through a webcam or virtual tutorials. Search our list of online piano teacher near you to find an instructor. Online piano lessons are often more convenient than in-person lessons and cost 20% less on average.

How do I select a piano teacher?

Start by searching our list of piano teachers, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates to compare.
  • Read reviews on Lessons and Google if possible.
  • Ask for references from current or recent students.
  • Make sure they are kind and personable, especially when with children.
  • Get a written estimate and schedule before the first lesson.
  • Avoid making a large payment up front. Follow a payment plan instead.

After asking questions and browsing reviews, hire the best piano instructor in your area.

What questions should I ask piano instructors?

When hiring piano teachers near you, ask the following questions:

  • How long have you been teaching piano?
  • Do you have a degree in music?
  • What age do you typically teach?
  • What genre of piano do you specialize in?
  • Will you give me a contract or payment arrangement in writing?
  • Will you allow me to choose some or all of the songs we practice?

Im Caleb’s student. He teaches me drums and, I like the way he teaches things. He never makes me feel rushed and he takes the classes slow and smooth. Sometimes he even likes to challenge me a bit but he never makes it hard to the point where I wanna stop playing drums. He makes me feel so confident where I'm now playing in school chapel. Overall he is the best teacher you could get for ANY instrument.

All the teachers are extremely knowledgeable about music. Margaret Goreshnik, the director of the academy is an excellent teacher who inspires excellence and love for music. My children are taking violin and guitar lessons and have been students the last 5 1/2 years at the academy. I recommend it to anyone for any age.

Everything! I have had the pleasure of knowing Alyssa for over five years. She teaches my daughter with Down Syndrome violin at home. Alyssa is professional, patient, and caring. She has helped my daughter to achieve an amazing level of competency. My daughter has auditioned for our state orchestra for the last three years. Not only has my daughter achieved a perfect score for every audition, but she is the first in our school district, in her program to ever audition. I absolutely feel this is due to Alyssa. Her knowledge not only of music, but of how to teach children is incredible. I recommend Alyssa whole heartedly!
