I have a degree in Music and a PhD in Music Education from the Sorbonne University (Paris). I have a very long experience in teaching Piano. I'm very flexible and I can always choose an interesting and diverse repertoire for a rapid student development. I really enjoy working with children and young people, but I also work with adults. It pleases me a lot to see the progress of each student, and to see that he is able to enchant and bring together his family and friends with his music, even in the first steps....

Welcome! I am a voice and piano teacher that is really passionate about music. I have a BA in Music Education and I really enjoy giving private lessons. I believe music brings many benefits to our lives that include improving creativity, discipline, memorization, social skills and so much more. As a teacher, I like to listen to my students, understand their goals, and tailor the lessons to what they enjoy and want to achieve.

Dev G. says, "I love Mrs. Colvert’s ability to empathize with each student and create a customized plan. I started when I was in lower school, and I was motivated by how she chose some pieces that were well-known and up-beat. She knows exactly what students need at each age, and it’s clear that she is a lifelong learner." Read more

I have been teaching for over 34 years, 21 of those here in South Florida. I have developed my own methodology and it's been proven over and over that impossible NOT to learn how to play the Guitar / Keyboard / El.Bass / if you follow it. There are now literally hundreds of references from former and current students who have experienced our way of teaching and have been extremely satisfied. Check out some of them out on our website or Facebook page. INSTAGRAM.com/WBMusicLessons www.FACEBOOK.COM/WBMusicLessons...

I love preparing my students for auditions to special schools and music schools, for performances, for recordings, and for competitions. I love piano music and enjoy sharing my excitement about music with my students! I love performing for audiences all over the world! I enjoy sharing this experience with my students and teach them how to achieve great results. I studied music at the best conservatory in the world - The Juilliard School in New York(I got in at 10 years old!). I also taught there in the Pre-College Division (up to 18 years old). I am very passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience with my students!...

Your Piano Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much are piano lessons?

Piano lessons cost $40 to $80 per hour, depending on the location, their experience level, and session length. A piano lesson package costs $180 to $350 for five 1-hour lessons. Children's piano lessons and online lessons often cost less than average.

Piano lessons are available for all ages in most cities in the country. Music instructors teach:

  • Music theory
  • Sight-reading
  • Improvisation
  • How to improve playing or technique

At what age should you start piano lessons?

The best age to start piano lessons is 5 to 9 years, though learning how to play the piano doesn't have an age limit. Playing the piano strengthens fine motor skills, increases flexibility, and improves your memory no matter how old you are.

Are piano lessons worth it?

Piano lessons are worth the money and effort invested over time. Playing an instrument can be beneficial for mental health, and cognitive strength. For smaller budgets, book just a few lessons to get the basics down and continue on your own.

How long are piano lessons?

Piano lessons for beginners or children are typically 30 to 45 minutes per session. Intermediate or advanced lessons are 45 to 60+ minutes per session. Most people have 1 to 2 lessons per week.

Can you learn to play piano online?

Yes, you can learn to play piano online through a webcam or virtual tutorials. Search our list of online piano teacher near you to find an instructor. Online piano lessons are often more convenient than in-person lessons and cost 20% less on average.

How do I select a piano teacher?

Start by searching our list of piano teachers, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates to compare.
  • Read reviews on Lessons and Google if possible.
  • Ask for references from current or recent students.
  • Make sure they are kind and personable, especially when with children.
  • Get a written estimate and schedule before the first lesson.
  • Avoid making a large payment up front. Follow a payment plan instead.

After asking questions and browsing reviews, hire the best piano instructor in your area.

What questions should I ask piano instructors?

When hiring piano teachers near you, ask the following questions:

  • How long have you been teaching piano?
  • Do you have a degree in music?
  • What age do you typically teach?
  • What genre of piano do you specialize in?
  • Will you give me a contract or payment arrangement in writing?
  • Will you allow me to choose some or all of the songs we practice?

Odalys is fantastic with my young son. He is learning drums right now and she keeps the lessons fun an interesting and mixes in things we can do as parents. She has also assisted us finding equipment and getting him comfortable with learning. Highly recommend

My son Rodrigo took piano lessons with Mrs. Colvert for 12 years - starting on 1st grade. She is a wonderful teacher, very dedicated to her students, a wise woman and always willing to give 100% (and more if she could) for her students. You can tell how much she loves what she does! Each year, she carefully selects her students’ repertoire according to their level and likes. When my son got older he could even choose what he wanted to learn. Her goal is not only that the child learns piano but also loves music for life. She gives plenty of opportunities to her students to keep them motivated during the year: two studio recitals (Fall and Spring), aural, theory and performance evaluations and student day evaluations - all optional events. I have recommended Mrs. Colvert to several friends and all - children and parents - were delighted with her! I would recommend her again and again!
