Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will cover musicality and technique whilst tailoring personalized practices for the student.
I recognize that needs are diverse after working independently with new students for over 7 years now.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am classically trained from ages 3 to 13 (this means ballet, jazz, contemporary, etc.) From age 16, I began assisting musical theatre directors with their choreography.
At age 18, I opened a dance franchise under a Latin dance Company based in Chicago. I received professional training in jazz, salsa, bachata, and contemporary. I traveled the country performing with this company, and trained with them for the world championships, Salsa Summit.
In Chicago, I received further training in Heels dancing, Hip Hop, and other styles from various teachers, and began my own dance program for Heels in Pensacola, FL.
How did you get started teaching?
I opened a dance franchise in Destin, FL under a Latin dance company in Chicago. Three years later, I started my own dance company, Goddess Dance Co, and continue to teach a wide variety of private lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with ages 5-60, men and women, those with injuries or disabilities, those who need a confidence boost, beginner to advanced, and many other varieties.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher that is well traveled and that offers you a custom experience. That is what a private lesson is all about. A teacher who customizes their teaching to their student's learning style is a teacher who has thought deeply about their methods of instruction. They are original rather than only following guidelines from their higher-ups or previous teachers.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much effort am I willing to put in?
What am I afraid of?
Am I willing to consistently work towards a goal?
Do I believe that with the right amount of time and work, I can achieve whatever goals I have?
