FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I start by asking what you would like to accomplish.  It is not my lesson, it is yours and I want to do what you want to do.  I use video analysis often and I am determined to help you achieve what you want from a lesson.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been trained and certified in swing instruction by both the Professional Golf Teachers and Coaches of America and The National Professional Golf Instructors Association.  My training, unlike PGA professionals, is totally in the golf swing and rules rather than in running a golf club.  I am also a certified Impact Zone instructor associated with Bobby Clampett, the touring professional and CBS golf personality.  In addition I am a certified First Tee Coach with over ten years with that organization.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$45 per half hour of instruction but finish always what we start no matter what the time.   Include a written review of the lesson via email as a follow-up.

How did you get started teaching?

I coached boys and girls high school golf in Indiana during my teaching career  and got my professional certification as an enhancement of that work.

What types of students have you worked with?

I like to work with all students.  I am very talented with young people but also good with adults.  I love teaching all levels from beginners to the most advanced players.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

The Master's tournament this past weekend was one of the most rewarding and gratifying watches of my entire life.  Seeing Sergio finally win his first major and the comradierie and absolute class of Justin Rose made me very excited to be a part of this wonderful game.  Golf is the only sport I have taught where you can absolutely appreciate the skill and accomplishment of your greatest opponent.  We all play against ourselves and the golf course in this game which allows us to celebrate the victories of our opponents as much as our own.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

If you are trying to hire a golf instructor, look for one who will try to help you develop the swing you have instead of trying to give you his own swing.  No one person swings the golf club well anything like anyone else.  I would suggest to you that Adam Scott and Jim Furyk are equally talented at getting the ball in the hole, but one has a classic, beautiful swing and the other has a swing that works for him like no other.  Tom Weiskopf had the prettiest swing you ever saw, but he did not win like Hogan or Nicklaus even though he looked better than both.  Your swing will work for you if you take care and develop it to the highest level possible.  You may not win the Mater's but you can have fun!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

set your goals.  What do you want from the game of golf?  Do you want to have fun?  Do you want to win championships?  Do you want to be a tournament player? Do you want it to pay your college tuition? How hard are you willing to work to achieve your goals?
