About

Teaching traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate. I am a Yondan, or 4th degree certified black belt instructor. We Offer classes for students ages 7 and up. Classes are Tuesday evenings (juniors only), Thursday evenings (all ages) and Saturday mornings (all ages).

I am passionate about teaching and training, but more important learning. I travel at least two to three times a year for trying seminars in my organization so I can continue to learn and grow and bring that to my students.

Well, I have been practicing here for 13 years and love every single class. Goju-Ryu is one of the five original karate styles. I have love training here and Sensei has molded me into the man I am today. We practice everything from basics to advanced techniques and knowledge. Always keep in mind that all this knowledge is ultimately for use in a self-defense situation and achieve this through our everyday training and kumite (sparring). I don’t seen myself doing anything else other than training more and adding more knowledge as time progresses. I love it and it’s part of my life.

I’ve been with TFMA since I was 11 years old and I’m still going strong as the top ranked student (14 years strong) because I’ve had an amazing teacher who has pushed me to be the best I can possibly be. I’ve learned many great things such as loyalty, discipline, respect, and much more. I couldn’t possibly have turned into the person I am today without TFMA. I highly recommend this dojo for anyone willing to learn not just the art itself but willing to learn as a person and learn how to grow inside and out.

Sensei pays attention to all the details to make sure one is making the right technique. He is very conscious of the limitations of each student to asure no physical injure to anyone in class. Also, he is aware of the growth in knowledge of the student to promote he or she for the next belt test successful result..

When we moved to Florida two years ago and searching for a dojo for our son, Tampa Family Martial Arts was the only program around that fit our needs: not an after-school program, not a tournament-centered, win-at-all-cost dojo where our son would feel out of place, but a place where he could thrive and continue to enjoy learning the martial arts. Sensei Bolton has given our son the skills to be successful in karate and have confidence in himself that he can achieve great things.

    Frequently asked questions

We take students of any physical condition (7 years and up)  or experience level and teach them the art of Goju Ryu from the ground up. We are not a “Belt factory” as it takes a long time to earn a black belt.

”A black belt is a white belt that never gave up.”

I have trained in this art for about 25 years and have an additional 6 years in another style. I recently went to Okinawa to train and take two to three trips a year to train with some of the best practitioners in the world. I bring what I have learned directly back to the dojo.

Pricing discussed upon first meeting. The most important aspect is for you to find a dojo that meets your needs.

I began teaching in the late 1990’s to help my instructor teach beginners at his dojo. All black belt candidates are expected to assist in teaching.

I have worked with students of all ages and skill sets. We accept students at all levels.

I recently spent two weeks in Okinawa to attend the IOGKF 2019 Gishki event, training with some of the top instructors in the world.

Don’t look for a school that discusses a timeline for achieving belt levels. The focus should always be about the training.
