About this pro

We are a music studio offering online and in-person coaching in voice, songwriting and creativity. We provide a fully-customized experience based on science, health, intuition and imagination - helping you fuel your creative spark and use your voice with greater freedom and power.

What's the difference between voice lessons and our vocal coaching? Instead of an "instructional" approach, we work with you in a creative way to blend the technical and artistic with what makes you YOU. We want to align our work with your goals and interests - and we like the teamwork mentality that comes with a coach/client relationship. We believe that vocal empowerment is immensely valuable for any age, career or phase of life - and we welcome and value our clients from all backgrounds and levels of experience.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We know that singing and using your creative voice is a very vulnerable act – but we also know how life-changing and empowering this journey can be! While our voice training methods are based in vocology, we always take a holistic and creative approach in order to support your unique self. All sessions begin with vocal warm-ups and exercises selected to help you access new muscles and sounds, as well as develop your breathing and listening skills. The remainder of the session can consist of a blend of topics depending on your upcoming goals or needs that day, such as song study and application, storytelling, musicianship, creative development, body language, improvisation, songwriting, spoken word, ear-training, yoga and breathing exercises, basic piano, performance skills, music theory, etc.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Courtney has been teaching students and clients across the country for nearly 15 years. She has a Master of Music degree in Jazz Voice from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, as well as her bachelor's from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. She's completed all 3 levels of CCM Certification in Somatic Voicework™ – LoVetri Method at Baldwin-Wallace University, Berea, OH and has studied privately with some of the top, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalists, instrumentalists and voice technique professionals in NYC. She's also an Apple Teacher and Google Certified Educator.

What types of students have you worked with?

Our clients range from ages 10 to 80, total beginners to professional musicians. We’ve worked with business executives to recording artists to software engineers to music students to Broadway dancers to retirees. We welcome and value our clients from all backgrounds and levels of experience, and are lucky enough to connect with them all over the world via Skype!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

The voice is a very personal, beautiful and valuable instrument. Be sure to work with someone who's teaching healthy, productive vocal technique, as well as encouraging you to grow in your musical interests and sense of creative expression.
