About

We provide personalized instruction in the art of Aikido. We also teach Aikido weapons of Bokken (wooden sword) and Jo (staff), as well as Ki (internal power).

Beginners only train with experienced students - this helps prevent injury and aids learning. We do not require contracts and there are no fees for testing.

It is great to be able to teach people how to deal with an attack without using strength or power. That there is power in being relaxed and dealing with an attack.

I started Aikido in 1993 and practicing since on and off mostly in Satoemes Aikido Schools of Ueshiba. Joining Atlanta Aikido was a positive shock for me. While most Aikido schools focus on following the traditions, Atlanta School of Aikido is about learning the art in a deeper level you experience elsewhere. Sensei Feldman provides insights that I have not seen at other schools or seminars. It always feels that you are getting a personalized attention and instruction. Having trained for so many years, I never realized some of the gaps I had until I joined the school. I would recommend to any serious experienced or newcomer aspiring Aikidoka.

The individual attention from higher ranks enables new students to learn and progress quickly. Studying Internal Power and how to incorporate it into Aikido is a plus.

The experience of the instructors, the training method, and positive attitude is superior! You are taught at your own pace and are encouraged to practice outside of class. There is a no injury policy. Instruction is heavy on weapons (Jo, Bokken, knife/sword takeaways). There is a direct lineage connection to O-Sensei. The training method teaches footwork, Ki, and balance separating attack/finish/method so that open-handed techniques are derived from nodal points and easy to remember vs. memorizing hundreds of separate techniques. Great school for beginners or advanced students.

Frequently asked questions

It all depends on the students ability to learn (hard to change) and how frequently they attend classes - easy to change. Every student tends to have their own rate of progress, and we work with them at whatver level they are and as quickly as they can handle more instruction.

I have been studying the Martial Arts since 1973, I studied Hakko Ryu Ju Jitsu from 1973 until 1977.

I started studying Aikido in 1978. I have been teaching since 1985.

I was awarded 6th Dan (6th degree black belt, as far as our system ranks) in 2015, and recognized as a Seneior Instructor by my teacher in 2016.

Yes, classes are $70/month, and held M/W at 8-9:30, Sat. 12:30-2:30.

As the senior student you undertaking teaching responsibilities. I then moved and started a class.

All types, all ages but usually 13 or older.

Go watch a class.

See if you can learn from that teacher's teaching style.

See how the students treat each other.

See how they treat beginners.

Don't find a martial arts instructor from a yellow pages ad.

Don't sign any long term contracts for instruction - especially for children.

Mention if you have any physical limitations or prior injuries.

It is nice to know what you are looking for from the class.
