    Frequently asked questions

I first find out what brought them to my class and what their level of cooking experience is. I try and include as many of my students in the cooking process as possible, so I'd encourage them to help out on a task I know they are capable of excelling at and try to teach them something new along the way.

I have worked in the food service industry for several years and I'm used to working with all kinds of people. I attended the University of Northern Iowa, focusing on the Fine Arts. As an artist, I tend to gravitate towards all creative pursuits, and learning the culinary arts became very important to me after I became an ethical vegan back in 2011.

I wanted to use my creativity to come up with tasty and plant based alternatives to my family's favorite foods. This led me to writing my cookbook, The Home Cooking Vegan, published in 2018.

Prices are factored by the amount of hours I am hired to teach for and the cost of the ingredients. Typically, my savory cooking classes are about $25 per student for 2 hours teaching time and $30 per student for pastry/bread classes. Must have a minimum of 8 students.

I took several Arts Education courses at UNI, in addition to working as a docent at the Waterloo Arts center in the Phelps Youth Pavilion. I started teaching cooking classes after I got the opportunity to teach at Mercy Health Center in affliation with Brightside Kitchen's cooking classes.

I have worked with young children, adults, and disabled students. I welcome all levels of experience and can cater my classes to a specific age group or ability level.
