My name is Tyler Larson. I've been playing the piano and performing for almost 25 years. I've been teaching for 15 years. I'm classically trained. Despite being classically trained, my one-man piano and vocal performances are primarily pop and rock centric (think dueling pianos, but only one guy playing the piano).

I am not a teacher to whom music came "easy". There were many struggles, therefore, I work constantly to analyze what each student needs to accomplish individual goals. My experience encompasses a number of years and includes working for music store studios, Community Schools of Music and private lessons in my own studio. I am an active participant in Des Moines Music Teachers, Iowa Music Teachers and the National Association of Music. In addition to 7 years of study as a young student, I completed 18 years as an adult student. Central Iowa Music Lab (CIML) was created in 2009 by James Biehn, a prominent musician/instructor in the Des Moines area. The goals of CIML are twofold: 1) To give a student enough musical skills to creatively interact with other musicians, and 2) to incorporate computer and Internet technology into each student’s lessons to help accelerate the learning process.

New World Piano Lessons
A new world requires new approaches to everything we do. With the onset of the Covid pandemic, I was forced to re-think my approach to giving piano lessons. After much experimentation I have found much success in giving piano lessons remotely.
Lessons given remotely can still be fun and effective, which has always been my goal. Of course, teaching remotely gives me the advantage of teaching students from all around the country and not just in my area. Most importantly, however, my approach to lessons are 100% safe in a new world that doesn't provide much safety when we need it most.
