About this pro

I  enjoy teaching students from ages  4 to senior.   My experience in music includes teaching  music in public school, accompanying and teaching children and adult choirs, leading drum circles, teaching piano, voice and theory.   I have a Bachelor degee in Music Ministry and a Masters degree in Music Education.

My comprehensive teaching method prepares students to read, play, create and perform music.  I teach piano technique, music theory, playing by ear, reading music notation, and more.  Music lessons are tailored to the goals and learning style of each student.  I teach various several genres of music:  worship music, gospel, jazz, classical, blues and pop music.

It is great to see kids discover that they can learn to play, create and perform music!  I love to see the students appreciate the individuality of other students as they share their songs in community. I really enjoy seeing the creative teamwork of my students, as they plan, produce and perform their recitals.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I offer an orientation at no charge to the student and parents to introduce myself and my approach to teaching.

We begin by defining music as an aural artform.

I ask the student to bring to the orientation a piece of music he or she enjoys listening to (Youtube recording).  If the student chooses, they may play something for me.

Then I play some small excerpt of music and we name the entities we hear in the song.... rhythm, melody, voices, instruments, etc.  The student identifies what musical entity he or she likes best.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Masters degree in Music Education (K-12)
