About
Learn to play the guitar with a professional with over 15 years of teaching experience and a lifetime performing. Bilingual (Spanish) and from Peru, I am a patient teacher of classical guitar technique: scales, strumming, reading music, theory, in a variety of styles.
Lessons for begginers, intermediate and advanced guitarists. All ages are welcome.
I live in Chicago and have a Bachelor of Music degree from UBC and a Master of Music degree from Roosevelt University in classical guitar performance. My live recordings have been broadcast on public radio. I was the instructor for over 10 years at Sherry Brener Inc, the Spanish guitar company that created Guitarra Magazine and collaborated with Andres Segovia and other world renowned guitarists.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
To get started we should decide if the lessons will be 30 minutes or 1 hour. I recommend having weekly lessons to notice improvement and establish a practice routine which is important for a beginner or intermediate student. You should plan to have access to a guitar, but if not, I can recommend models, prices, etc.
Once the lesson begins we will proceed with some technique basics like how to pluck the strings, strumming, learning the notes in the 1st position, learn to read music by playing popular tunes, etc. After becoming familiar with some of these basics we can start learning other important elements like scales, arpeggios, etudes, and other music. If a student already knows how to play we can work on perfecting their technique, learning other styles of guitar and learning music theory which would allow for a more complete understanding of music, composition, improvisation and ensemble playing.
