About

Hello everyone! I'm María and I'm here to help you learn Spanish. I am a native Spanish speaker. I was born and raised in Spain before I moved to the United States at 13 years old. I'm currently doing my Bachelor's degree in Medicine in Madrid, Spain.

I specialize in conversational classes because I believe it's the best way to learn a new language and get to know my students. I also have a lot of experience working as a reinforcement for middle and high schoolers.

I like to offer a FREE 30-minute session to talk to the student and learn their wants and needs. This way, I can adapt the lessons to each and every one of you. It also lets me help anyone interested in learning Spanish, regardless of age or level.

I have always loved learning new languages and cultures, so I understand how challenging it can be. I try to take this into account in my tutoring lessons because each person learns at a different pace and in different ways. Throughout school and even now at university, I've realized that a lot of people come to me for help when they don't understand something. I believe this is because I always do my best to explain the answer in a way they can easily understand. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, but I have done it professionally for over 2 years.

I do most of my work in conversational classes and extra tutoring to help with school, but I can also help with homework, exam and presentation preparation, essay writing, and whatever you may need. I am easy to reach and will provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I hope to see you soon!

Frequently asked questions

In the first class, I have a conversation with them to get to know each other and learn their wants and needs. This way, I know how I can help them achieve their goals, and I can adapt the lessons. I specialize in conversational classes because I find it's the best way to learn a new language, but I can help with anything the student might need.

Before class, I ask my students if there is something they want to focus on (exam/presentation prep, homework help, essay writing, etc.) After class, I ask them for feedback.

I am bilingual in English and Spanish after living in Spain and the United Sates for a long time. After having tutored my sister and peers in different subjects I decided to do it professionally, and now have over 2 years of experience. I have also taught Spanish to little kids while babysitting, so I have experience with younger children.

I offer a FREE 30-minute session to get to know my student and what they need/want to get out of the lessons. Then, I offer my first 1-hour class for 10$ because I know that committing to a tutor without knowing them is not easy. After that, my 1-hour classes are 25-35$ depending on what type of classes they are, since some require spending a lot of hours outside of the lessons.
I decided to start teaching because I realized that my sister and my classmates always came to me when they needed help and I always loved helping them. So I started to do it professionally.
I have mostly worked with middle and high schoolers to help them with their Spanish classes, to get them ahead, or catch them up, or just as a regular reinforcement. However, I have also worked with older people, mostly for conversation classes.
I would advise students to find someone they have good chemistry with. There are a ton of good teachers out there, but if you don't get along with them, the classes can get exhausting. It is also very important to find a tutor with the student's best interest and not their own. Look out for those things and you should be fine!
