About this pro

I am a poliglot, speaking  5 languages fluently, mastering conversational settings,  grammar, reading, writing  in Spanish,  English as a Second Language (ESL), Italian, French and Romanian.

I will be more than happy to help you master the speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills in Spanish, English as a Second Language (ESL) Italian, French and Romanian.

I enjoy how my students are becoming more fluent in a foreign language and they are able to hold a conversation that expresses their preferences, emotions, future plans, things that they have done in the past, etc.

I have been working as a teacher/tutor with any age individual or group (8 - 65 years old) since 2009. I have a vast experience on how to immerse a student in a conversation in the language, explain grammar topics if needed, provide examples and using a lot of visual aid.

Octavian is a great teacher! He is very encouraging and goes at my pace. I have been working with him for almost 2 months and already feel more confident speaking French. My French classes are the highlight of my week :)

Octavian is a wonderful teacher! His lessons are easy to follow, yet challenging. He also has a fun personality and great with kids, my 11-year-old daughter can't wait for her Thursday lessons. Glad to have found his ad here.

His first free class was awesome and I would highly recommend him to learn Spanish step by step. Learning foreign language with a good teacher is most important. I hope you do not to spend more time to find a teacher instead of him.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Typically I identify the level of the student: basic, novice, indermediate, advanced. I will intergrate the student's interest in the lessons: speaking, reading, writing, understanding grammatical concepts, how to write an email and/or. memo, request, etc. I will also integrate all the interests above.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

2005-2009: Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and French (B.A.)

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

2009-2011:  Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies (M.A.)

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

There is no standard pricing for my lesson, this can be further discussed between myself and the future students. Discounts will applly for students that are interested in  a long term learning a language and also for those who choose any combination of the 2 languages from: French, Italian, Romanian and/or Spanish.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching 15 years ago, at first at college level, then I have been a high school teacher for Spanish and Italian, and currently I also tutor childern from 7-14 years old in Romanian, Spanish, Italian and French.

Teaching different languages and cultures is my passion!

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with academic students, preparing them for exams such as AP, IB, ACTFUL, and also Placement Test for college admission.

Additionally, I also have worked with students that thei want to learn the language for personal purposes such as traveling, family connection aboard, job interviews from companies aborad,  expanding personal and cultural knowledge.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I love the "aha" moment when the students not only understand the concept that they were taught, but they apply it in their own personal life and context.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Always check the tutor experience, credenatial, reviews, referrals, as well as asking for a free lesson , so that the  student can have a "personal vibe" with the tutor. Different teaching styles apply to all of us, tutors.

Make sure you find yours that fits best!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

The goals (either academic or personal) should be set on day 1 and the student should make a reasonable assumption of how much time he/she wants to dedicate learning a particular foreign language(s).

Also, the student should ask about any experience aborad that the tutor holds.
