Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I work with a student for the first time, students are required to schedule at least one audition lesson with me. This audition lesson is the student's chance to demonstrate their interest in improving on the trumpet, their current ability level, and it is also a chance for them to evaluate if they think studying with me will be a good fit. Students who successfully audition for my studio will be offered studio membership. The audition lesson rate is the same as the normal lesson rate: $100/hr

How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching trumpet when I was a senior in high school. Having been a first chair All-State player in Georgia for two years in a row, local band directors from other high schools asked if I would teach some of their trumpet students private lessons. I was very excited when some of my students made the All-District Band and one of my students even made All-State Band during my first year as a teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young beginners, adult beginners, middle school students, high school students, and college students. All levels are welcome to study with me if they are willing to work hard, trust my teaching, and commit to a regular practice routine.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure to evaluate teachers carefully and make sure that the teacher is a good fit for your goals. You should ask yourself the following questions: What is the teacher's educational background? Do they have any degrees music? Majoring in the instrument they teach?
Does the teacher perform frequently as a professional musician? With a highly regarded ensemble? Does your teacher have teaching experience? Has the teacher demonstrated success with other students? Does the teacher have my best interests in mind? Will they work hard to help me improve?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask themselves the following types of questions:
What are my goals?
How often do I want to commit to taking lessons?
How much practice time each week am I willing to commit to?
How much experience do I have on my instrument?
Am I willing to travel to the teacher? Am I interested in online lessons?
