What I love about teaching voice lessons is having a front-row seat when students have their "aha" moments: When they learn something about themselves, their technique, their voices, or maybe all of the above, and make better music than they've ever made before. Working one-on-one with aspiring singers, I can really tailor what I teach to the specific needs and goals of each student, which helps progress occur more quickly.
I have taught general music, theory, chorus, and private lessons to preschool through college-age students over the last 13 years. A third generation music teacher, I grew up “playing school” and knew I wanted to go into the profession from a young age. As an adult, I got bit by the musical theater bug, and now you can see me performing in many musicals across the Chicagoland area.
Some of my qualifications/accolades/achievements/etc. include:
-B.M. in Music Education from Olivet Nazarene University
-National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Midwest Regional winner, Classical Division, 2006
-Member Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus, 2012-13
-Member Grant Park Symphony Chorus, 2012-14
-June Carter Cash in Williams Street Rep's Ring Of Fire, summer '18
-Certificate: Jeanie LoVetri (Adele's voice teacher) Contemporary Commercial Music Certification
-Nellie in Dunes Summer Rep's South Pacific, summer '19
All the lessons were well taught with high confidence and understanding. Jenna is a great singer and that shows in her lessons, and that is really inspiring. On top of that she is one of the nicest people you'll meet and it really makes it easy to be vulnerable so that all your little problems can be addressed.
As one of her former vocal students, I completely recommend Jenna. Her lessons were extremely beneficial in my vocal development. She is an amazingly talented and extraordinarily gifted teacher. Anybody would be very lucky to have Jenna as their vocal instructor.
Jenna’s a highly skilled and talented vocal coach! Her warm and caring personality makes working with her fun and easy going. Jenna does a great job at recognizing the individual strengths her students have. Jenna helps to choose music that highlight those strengths, while also being mindful of what a student needs to work on, and chooses music that is challenging but well-suited to the individual. When I think back on my experience with Jenna, I remember her pushing me out of my comfort zone and performing for a small group, I grew a lot from that experience!
