Mary is my daughters voice teacher. She is wonderful! Very patient and encouraging. She pushes my daughter just far enough out of her comfort zone to help her grow. Since working with Mary I have noticed a huge improvement in my daughters singing and overall confidence! Mary gives my daughter a CD with the songs she is working on, has a microphone and great sound system and has even recorded My daughter singing which she uses as a teaching tool to point out strengths and areas to work on! I have been very impressed with Mary and highly recommend her!

Mrs. Barrios is my sons first piano teacher, he learned piano with her from 1st grade for two years, before she moved far away. My son had a very good experience with Mrs. Barrios. As a piano and music teacher, Mrs. Barrios is highly qualified and experienced in teaching piano and music; she also includes update technology in addition to traditional teaching. She was always available for my sons questions outside class time. Her style is very warm and nurturing, she knows how to teach a young child, how to help a young child practice, and how to get a young child to listen effectively. Through her pleasant and positive way, she helps her students build their piano skills; at the same time, she knows how important it is to carefully build a young childs self-esteem. Mrs. Barrios is a very good piano teacher, she can connect very well with her students. We highly recommend her!

Mary has been giving our son piano lessons for three years since he was in Kindergarten. She is a fantastic teacher and is very nurturing. She moved to a different town this past year, but our son loves her so much that we continue to use her for his lessons, even though we have to drive over an hour each way (and our son normally doesnt like long drives). We highly recommend her!

Frequently asked questions

I like to meet my student prior to the first lesson. I ask about the student's goals, hobbies, and schedule. I also want to find out about any history of music lessons.

I have been teaching music privately and in schools since 1988. I have a bachelor's in elementary education and a masters degree in professional counseling.

As a student, I have had 16 years of piano lessons, 2 years of vocal training, and 2 years of classical guitar training.

I have led children's choirs and directed several children's musicals both as head director and music director.

My fee is $30 per half hour lesson. I ask my clients to pay one month's fees on the first lesson of the month. Although I prefer cash, I do accept personal checks. Missed lessons are credited only when given 24 hours notice.

I feel I was born a teacher. I taught my younger siblings, then friend's children as well as my own. Word-of-mouth expanded my student numbers; however, a recent move means building back my business.

I have worked with students as young as 4 through older adults. Many of my students attended a gifted school. I have also worked with a few special needs students.

A recent event was playing music with family members over the holidays. I pulled out all types of instruments and encouraged all to grab one and join in. I have a music studio with dozens of instruments.

Meet with your teacher before committing to lessons. Find one with whom you feel comfortable. Don't hesitate to interview more than one until you find a good fit. Also, make sure you find a teacher who includes music theory in your lessons.
