Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will review goals as well as previous experience. From there go over training options and set up a training program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a black belt in karate, a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu working towards my black, several certifications, and 16 years of teaching experience working with kids and adults.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For non Academy students, I charge $80 for 60 minutes, and 40 for 30 minutes. However I do offer packages with discounts if you prepay for 10 sessions
How did you get started teaching?
I began as an assistant at the school.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ive worked with kids as young as 3 and adults as old as their 70s. I’ve had students with many disabilities and medical conditions including blindness, heart, and liver transplants. I’ve worked with students doing off season cross training to prepare for college athletics. I’ve worked with students training for amateur and professional martial arts competition. I’ve also worked with law enforcement.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Martial arts is time intensive. It takes commitment. However it is very rewarding. I would be a great source for a beginner who is looking to get started on the right foot. Or a student with some training who is looking for individual focus.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Can I commit to train at least once a week? Why do I want to train ? What is significant stress relief worth to me?
