Sing! With Renee - The Voice Studio

I listen to what the student wants from singing lessons to start with.  I train voices by teaching breathing and vocal exercises that show students how to healthily use their voice and find their true sound in a variety of styles.  Listening and analyzing the technical help they need is the root of what I do.

I have 25 years of experience teaching private voice.  Starting with lessons as a teenager, I have studied Voice and how to teach Voice throughout my career.  I have a B.A. in Music Education from Indiana State University, a Master of Music Education specializing in Voice Pedagogy from the University of North Texas, and am currently working on my doctorate in Voice from Ball State University.

To have lessons online or in my studio, reserve a weekly lesson time you pay a monthly fee.  It is the cost of 3 lessons, but you get lessons every week, expecting no make-up if you miss.  I appreciate 30 days notice to discontinue lessons, since you have paid for the month up front.

If I go to your location, the fee is $65 per hour.  

My voice teacher at college asked me to help other students.  I loved my high school and college teachers, and I knew I wanted to be a teacher because I was going to school for Music Ed.  I knew by my 4th year, though, that I wanted to be a Voice Teacher.  I joined the Nationa Association of Teachers of Singing and attend all workshops and conventions of Voice Teachers that I can.

Men, women and children at all levels of schooling through retirees.  Musical theater performers and auditioners, College entrance preparations, people who love to sing but just want more confidence to even sing along at church.  I've had students who think they are tone deaf and helped them develop a singing voice, and also songwriters and guitar players who want to be better singers.

Bacially anyone!  The children under 10 are always put in classes rather than private unless their is a specific reason to do private training.

A parent texted me a photo she took of a penciled letter she found in her daughter's school notebook.  It was a letter to me about how she loved her lessons and how sweet and nice and kind I am.  And my cat.  She loves us!  That was a special text from people I love to work with.  Another is a family of 4 who all take private piano.  The little girl who "hates" piano was so cute and excited today to show me she could play the entire song.  A last one is that a student and I sang a duet at my church last Sunday and I have several students doing special music there this Summer.

Get someone with experience teaching and good education.  If singing hurts and your teacher can't correct that, you need a new teacher!  Singing should never hurt!  And you should feel that you are learning something and improving in a short time.  You will plateau from time to time, but let the teacher guide you to the next level.

They should know why they want voice lessons.  They may want to ask if the teacher has performing experience if they want to be a performer.  If they have any vocal problems to correct, ask the teacher if they have corrected problems before, and how long should it take.  Also, how to know if vocal rest is in order.
