About
Great passion, total dedication to each individual student, always going the extra mile to ensure the student's progress as a singer and that each student is enjoying lessons with me.
My background is found here: http://www.vocalmentor.com/about/ .
But let's allow one of my students to express himself, about having lessons with me:
My name is Russell and I’m from Denmark. I’ve been singing on and off since I was a kid and I’m 22 years old today. Just a few weeks ago, I decided to start taking singing more seriously. This led me to ask some questions on Quora.com regarding my singing voice type, which Miss Gretchen Greenfield kindly and thoughtfully replied to.
Over the course of the past few weeks, Miss Greenfield has been very helpful to me, helping me deal with allergies that have been interfering with my singing, making me cough, blocking off nasal air flow. She’s also been helping me build a proper breathing technique for singing and helping me improve my singing technique over all. Miss Greenfield is always giving me fantastic and helpful advice, every time we work together. After talking with her, I’ve gotten a really clear picture of how I should be training my singing next.
You can honestly feel her passion for teaching other people and it’s a wonderful vibe to be around. She’s always very thoughtful and caring of your voice and of you as a person, and it feels very personal, in a good way, of course!
I’m definitely very happy that I got in touch with Miss Greenfield and it’ll not be the last time—that’s for sure!
When my students begin to realize more self-confidence, and when they begin to blossom as individuals, this is what it's all about. Sure, my students excell tremendously in their vocal development. And my students win competitions and win auditions, because of how thoroughly and accurately we've prepared in their lessons. And when students begin feel that the singing voice comes from the soul, it's immensely gratifying--not just for me but for everyone concerned!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before the first lesson, through email or phone, I ask if the student has had singing lessons before and, if yes, to please tell me what songs they were working on and also to tell me what style of music they prefer to sing and to perform. I also ask what the student's personal goals are, for his/her singing.
In our first lesson, I listen carefully to the voice, by asking the student to sing either a song of their choosing or to sing some of the warm-up exercises they like to use. The student learns about the best body alignment for singing and how to breathe correctly as well as beginning to use good breath support, through my instruction. (Breathing and how the breath is used forms the foundation of all singing.)
The student is given instructions for warming up the voice and instructions for how much to practice, between our lessons. We start with learning specific songs which, I know from much teaching experience, will strengthen the voice, expand the singing range, and be lots of fun for the student to learn to sing!
I always give extra time at no extra charge for any student who requests it. My goal is for you, the student, to be happy with your lessons and to be progressing with your vocal development, to meet your singing goals!
