About

I am a US citizen, originally from Costa Rican. I have lived in the United States since 1983. I studied English as a Second Language (ESL) at the University of Tulane in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

After moving to Houston, I became a bilingual legal secretary, and worked for Yocel Alonso, a Cuban-American lawyer, in a prestigious law firm specializing in International Business and Litigation.

In 1987, during the Presidency of Mr. Oscar Arias Sanchez, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rodrigo Madrigal Nieto, agreed to appoint me Honorary Chancellor at the Consulate General of Costa Rica in Houston, an honor earned due to my interest in helping other Costa Ricans.

During this time, I assisted the Consul General, Mr. Fernando Vicente Castro, in his duties to protect within his jurisdiction the rights and interests of Costa Rica and its nationals and to promote friendly relations between Houston and Costa Rica. Other contributions included: document translation services, secretarial services and assistance to all "Ticos" who were looking for some type of consulate service.

In 1990, after moving to the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I continued my university studies in the Science of Education at Louisiana State University (LSU) where I graduated in 1996.

I took the National Test Examination (NTE) for certification as a Spanish teacher. I worked in several classroom settings for 17 years. In addition to my teaching Spanish, I tutored ESL to Latin Americans and continued my dedication to the study of English and social sciences. I was also an English teacher (ESL) for El Ministerio Hispano of the Catholic diocese of Baton Rouge and Parkview Baptist Church.

I truly enjoy working with students who are excited about learning Spanish language and culture. It is very rewarding to witness their progress in their learning journey. To me the best way to learn is to have a one-on-one tutor who really cares about your learning.
