First and foremost, She is absolutely lovely to be around. She is patient, able to be in the moment with the student she had at that particular time and her fees are more than reasonable. She is very knowledgeable about ALOT of different styles of music and she is always happy to hear about musicians that are new to her. My favorite thing about her, though, is the way she smiles and lights up when she sees me doing something right that she has just thought me!!! It’s the best. I just wish I had her all to myself!!!! Everyone should take lessons from her!!!

Ruths patience and skill in communicating her knowledge to others is unparalleled by any other music teacher I have ever had. She is talented not only in violin but also in teaching her craft, which is not always the case with a musician of her high caliber. I will take lessons with her forever, or until she retires.

Ruth Roland holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance. In over thirty years of teaching, she has run a successful private violin studio, taught at Cornell University, and directed the string department at St. Joseph School of Music (St. Paul, MN's largest community music school). She has been an adjudicator for Solo and Ensemble, All-State Orchestra, and the LMTA Strings Rally. She has also conducted workshops with the Louisiana Youth Orchestras and in the Baton Rouge and Ithaca (NY) public schools.

Among her performance credits are shows with such artists as Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson, and the Moody Blues, as well as with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baton Rouge Symphony, and Opéra Louisiane. She has performed the role of Ray-Bob the Fiddler in Always, Patsy Cline at LSU's Swine Palace Theatre and Theatre Baton Rouge. A recording artist as well, she has worked on several CDs, both as a backup musician and as a member of the eclectic string band Water Bear.

Ruth has lived in Baton Rouge for more than ten years and has two children of her own. She teaches a variety of styles, including classical, fiddle, and jazz.  Her students sound good and have fun, some going on to conservatories and professional careers.
