About

Justin brings a calm, patient, easy-going demeanor to his lessons, creating a fun and exciting learning environment. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to each lesson. He uses the many books, videos, transcriptions and recordings he has accumulated over his career to bolster the learning experience.

Justin is available for private instruction on Drum Set, Mallets, and Percussion at his studio in Sudbury, MA. He enjoys teaching the young beginner, the adult picking it up for the first time or looking to sharpen up their skills, as well as the serious student with high aspirations. He has helped many students pass auditions for Districts, All State, New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, UMass and others. What ever your interest in drumming happens to be, Justin enjoys helping you achieve your goals.

Students are often encouraged to select songs that they would like to learn. This builds a direct connection to the instrument and techniques used during the lessons with a real musically creative situation. Students that are learning songs they choose are more likely to practice and continue playing year after year as they become the drummer they want to be.

Im a 56 yr old woman and decided to learn an instrument. I chose drums due to how it helps with memory, moods and so many health benefits. Justin made it easy for me to learn but also challenged me to learn the songs I thought were to hard. He instilled a sense of confidence in me to continue and I looked forward to my lesson each week. I didnt have a boring workbook, I just picked my favorite songs and he taught me how to play through them in no time. Justin is an excellent teacher and drummer, and makes you feel comfortable as soon as you meet him. I had to stop drumming due to shoulder complications but will definitely call Justin when I can return.

Justin has been a wonderful teacher. He breaks down the parts of the song, bit by bit, and then melds them together. Hes very professional and responsive. I would highly recommend Justin as a drum teacher to any adult thats wanting to learn a new instrument!

I recently picked up a drum kit at a garage sale hoping the kids would take an interest. No such luck! I decided not to let it go to waste and started lessons with Justin Oliver. I could not be happier. My goal is to have fun learning something new and challenging...so far so good. Justin keeps things engaging and interesting and has an easy going positive nature. His love for the drums is infectious and he encourages you to expand your musical knowledge as well. He is a fantastic teacher!
