About

Online/virtual vocal coaching (via video chat) in a variety of styles- rock, pop, R&B, musical theatre, country, folk, classical- with an emphasis on holistic learning. All skill levels and all ages welcome- anyone can learn to sing, and everyone has a voice.

INFORMATION ON LESSONS:

Just because we are all staying home does not mean that learning and personal growth needs to be put on pause- I am offering vocal coaching via video calls (Zoom, Google Hangouts, Facetime) for anyone who is interested in developing their own unique voice, and gaining confidence in their performance abilities.

As someone who has been teaching for over three years, and has been performing for 12 years, I can offer insight into not only theory and techniques for being a better singer, but also a holistic perspective on how we can address things like anxiety, self-image, and physical and mental health in order to finely tune and control our instrument- the human body. Singing is not only physical, it is emotional and mental, and I pride myself in being able to connect with students on a deeper level in order to understand who they are, and to teach them how to fully embody the vocal techniques that I give them.

Additionally, songwriting is one of my deep loves, and I offer my lessons to those who are interested in songwriting and/or self-accompaniment on instruments like guitar or piano- both of which I can play and teach in tandem with singing. I will happily offer tips and techniques on how to effectively write and perform your own songs either solo or with a band, as that is what I have been doing for over a decade.

BACKGROUND:

I am an alumni of Berklee College of Music, with voice being my primary instrument. I graduated with a degree in Professional Music, focusing on Music Therapy. I am in a Boston-based alt rock band that frequently gigs in Boston and the surrounding areas. We have released a full-length album, an EP, and are in the process of writing our second EP.

To listen to what I do, you can hear my band's music (where I sing, play rhythm guitar, and write the majority of the vocal melodies) at https://open.spotify.com/album/6cCiCHfAsJbhPLUEzebyxo?si=7d6Kvh92SzuGNWga_9N4HQ&dl_branch=1

Though I primarily play and teach variations of rock and pop music, I have a strong background in musical theatre, and I enjoy incorporating that experience into my lessons, and encouraging growth towards a fully-fledged performance out of my students.

Flexible lesson times and scheduling, decided on an individual basis. I am in graduate school and prefer to work on weekdays, but the specifics are up for discussion.

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Richa, and she is feeling more confident and proud of her singing. The online lessons are nice because she can go in her room and feel like she has privacy. Richa is very personable and makes her feel comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

I prefer my lessons to be as studen-led as possible. I will not force my students to learn songs they don't like, or sing in styles that feel unnatural to them (albeit I will encourage trying new things within reason). While I will provide a guiding hand and be as encouraging of growth as possible, I see my job as a method by which my students can find their own unique voice, and truest form of self expression.

With new students, I will try to get to know them as well as possible, assess their individual musical tastes, figure out what their end goal is, and how we can best work together to bring out the best in them.

I attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music as a singer, and have been teaching private lessons and leading student bands for over two years.

60 min lesson: $50
45 min lesson: $40
30 min lesson: $30

I have worked with students of all ages and skill levels, including those with special needs. My adult students are often folks who practiced music as children, and are interested in reigniting that creative spark, but I have also worked with adult beginners. Generally I enjoy working with beginners and intermediate singers, as it is very rewarding to instill good singing habits from the get go. For my more advanced students, I am passionate about honing their skills and focusing them onto bigger picture goals, like songwriting and public performance.

Singing is a physical and emotional act- it is different from other instruments in that your instrument is your body, which is vulnerable to internal experiences, and at the mercy of your physical and emotional health. Look for someone who makes you feel safe, understood, and who does not make you feel judged- these will all effect how easily and skillfully you can access your instrument.

What do you want out of lessons? Is this a long-term or short-term commitment? Which artists do I admire and what do I want to sound like? Am I willing to practice regularly in order to make progress?
