I'm a professional musician with over 40 years of training and performance experience as a vocalist and instrumentalist.
I've studied many vocal technique methodolgies to strengthen the voice in a way that singing becomes free and easy. The combination of methods used is appropropriate for all styes of singing.
In our lessons we will:
Focus on vocal technique to improve flexibility, range and control of vocal production, thus creating new vocal habits
Enhance storytelling with emphasis on clear diction, song analysis, emotional connection and believability
Improve performance skills by learning how to connect with audiences, stay in the moment and to own the stage.
I love music and truly believe that I was born a musician. I grew up singing in the gospel choir at church. I studied violin for 15 years and hold a Bacherlor of Arts degree in classical flute performance. I also have a Masters Degree and an Artist Diploma from theh famed New England Conservatory of Music. I been performing since the age of 4 and to this day that is my biggest joy. The conneciton and energy exchanged between myself and the audience is electrfying.
As a professor/teacher I give 100% and expect my students to do the same. With focused daily practice, progress/improvement begins to show fairly quickly. It warms my heart and makes me smile when the student notices the difference and is able to maintain the new vocal habit. At this point, there is a lot of "high-fiving" happening. I enjoy celebrating small victories.
I have sharp ears and often stop the student if the vocal production isn't correct. I prefer to make the correction immediatly instead of practicing a bad habit.
I celebrate the small
Patrice Williamson is an exceptional vocal teacher who has not only a solid grounding in vocal technique but also vast experience as a world-class jazz singer. What is so special about Patrice is her ability to discover your vocal strengths and guide you in reaching your full potential. Each of my lessons with her is tailored to my vocal development, my learning style, and my chosen songs. She gives me the exact exercises I need to expand and improve all aspects of my singing. Patrice is really into getting the best from me and my voice. Her warm and upbeat personality along with her lovely sense of humor encourage me and give me confidence as a singer. Her wonderful jazz piano backups bring out the best in my singing. At the end of each lesson I do sing better. I leave happy and motivated to work harder. When I need inspiration, I can drop into one of Patrice’s sensational performances in town to hear how jazz should be swung.
I used to learn singing with Professor Patrice Williamson. She is such a nice person. In her class, you will study (especially Jazz singing) in a very joyful way. She gotta so warm mezzo-soprano voice! Try hard to learn scatting with Patrice! Because she is a scatting killer! :)
Patrice is a demanding teacher, who holds my feet to the fire, and makes me work hard in lessons - but is also a lot of fun! My voice lesson with her is always the brightest part of my week.
She creates a comfortable learning environment, very professional, and understands just how to explain techniques to the student. Learning from her my first semester was enough reason for me to sign up for her class a second time. She knows her stuff and knows how to teach it!
