About
Hello! My name is Yulia Petrachuk and I am an professional singer, vocal coach, piano and Russian language teacher. No matter what kind of singing style you prefer, you need a classical technique foundation! With over 15 years experience, my instructional method can help you attain your goals, teach you how to use the diaphragm, show you how to release your vocal potential with the correct breathing and expression. As well I am specializing on Russian classical music and language. I would teach you how to sing Russian music, help with Russian diction and apply it on singing technique. I also teach the basic knowledges of piano for the beginners. I take a very individual approach to teaching, adapting to specific needs of the student at his/her level of development. In terms of my educational background, I hold a Masters of Arts degree from the Moscow State Conservatory in Russia and a Masters in Opera Performance from the Opera Studio in Bern, Switzerland. As a native Russian speaker I can help you to study Russian language, teach you the grammar and how to hold the basic conversations. Adults and children are welcome. I teach in Rockville, MD, but have flexibility to work in alternate locations or online.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
- I create very comfortable atmosphere for a new student to feel relaxed and show his/her best. - At the first lesson I ask a student to sing anything he wants for checking his voice, then I give the specific vocal scales to check his/her type of voice. - Than I explain and show in general how I work with the technique and which kind of exercises I require. - Together with a student we try a little bit to apply on his/her voice and body the new received information. - On following lessons I slowly concentrate on the specific aspects of the technique one by one (breath, position, relaxation, vowels and etc...) - After a student feel enough comfortable to sing different scales and vowels, we start to apply it on a simple song

How did you get started teaching?
I started to teach at a Children Music School 15 years ago and worked there for 3 years, now I teach only private, because only like that I can concentrate on the specific needs of a student and take individual approach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I worked with adults and children starting from 4 to 70 years old with different needs and experience. Some people coming to me just to improve their talking voice, but at the end they want to become professional singers :) Some of the people already are singing professionally or as doing it as a hobby and would like to improve their way to sing, technique and to free high notes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you really would like to understand your body and voice never go for a stile of singing (pop, rep, music theater etc...), go only for classical technique and after you can do what ever you want with it, because you will control your voice and not have any limits with the stiles!
