About this pro

Wesley Washington is currently the only instructor.  He has been an enthusiastic participant in martial arts, movement, and music since he was young. He started martial arts as a child in Cleveland Ohio doing Taekwondo at the Puritas Community Center. Later when he moved to Springfield Massachusetts he started to learn Chinese American Kenpo Karate from Master Leo Williams. After 9 years of diligent training, fighting on the tournament circuit, and teaching as a Jr. Instructor he earned his black belt at the age of 18. He then moved to Hawaii and taught private classes to pay for school.  A few years later Wesley picked up guitar, but also picked up an awesome job as a physical therapy assistant at Turquoise Trail Physical Therapy. There he expanded his knowledge of the human body and how to maintain and surpass it's health and range of motion.   In 2009 Wesley started teaching Capoeira with Unidade Capoeira Cleveland.  Wesley eventually parted ways with Unidade Capoeira and began teaching his own form of Kenpo, Capoeira, and physical therapy techniques blended together.   He later hosted a Capoeira Open Roda for Earthfest at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.  He attends festivals regularly to play.  Wesley taught Kenpo to children at Morriss Black Community Center in Cleveland, Oh.   Wesley has also taught Capoeira for Passport Project.  He currently teaches music and movement to children at the Kiddie Kastle in  Cleveland, Oh.  Wesley loves people, learning, teaching, and experiencing, the exchanges we make that utilize the mind, body, and spirit.  Cleveland's most trusted news source The Plain Dealer did an awesome article on Wesley and his class and rated him the top of fitness things to do in Cleveland.

It is wonderful to watch the wholeness of a person grow and adapt from practicing and doing something that they once were not able to do.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to observe interview and check out goals and experiences with a student first.  Then I like to make sure that we meditate.  We warm up we stretch and then we work on movement and conditioning. if the case needs martial arts self-defense we will also do that.  I like to have fun and use the world as a gym.
