I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Saginaw Valley State University with an emphasis in trumpet, piano, and music theory. I have been fortunate to work with many students. My students have been as young as four years old, and as old as 73! I have also been blessed to work with students from many cultural backgrounds. Currently, my studio is a mix of young beginners and intermediate adults.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking to hire a music teacher, ask them about their educational background. Why are they qualified to teach this subject? Also consider how long they have been teaching and how they approach music learning. Ideally, a music teacher should be patient, attentive, and fun!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Consider your learning goals. Why do you want to learn this instrument? Have you already been playing it for a while, or are you a total beginner? Do you have any prior musical background that will help you learn this instrument?
