Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On a student's first day they are assigned a partner with an existing student so during the warm ups they have a partner that can answer questions for them and help them along during the warm up portion of class. After that he second half of class is dedicated to the instruction of technique and the new student will work with an instructor or trained leadership team member and begin learning some basic kicks, punches classroom etiquette. When the new student completes this training (typically 1-3 classes) they will earn their white belt. At this time they will begin learning the required curriculum for advancement from white belt to orange belt.

How did you get started teaching?
Early on in my martial arts training I started helping out with classes. I really loved the helping and teaching and I found that it made my martial arts skills much better.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have classes for kids as young as 3 years old and students in their 50 and 60 and every age in between. If I have someone interested in training, there isn't a age that is to old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Test days are awesome. It gives the student a chance to preform their technique and advance in belt rank. Many times the family and friends in attendance are amazed at the skills and abilities of their testing family member or friend. Many times it's the student themselves that are amazed and their own accomplishments. That makes me proud and happy!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try out the classes. Make sure you enjoy the teaching style of the instructors and make sure that the classs they offered work for you. When you train, give it time and regular attendance and then after a few months see the results.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Realize that over time your needs will change and that's OK. Many of my students came in for one reason and stay for another.
There are no real bad questions to ask. If you don't know, your instructor the question and they should be happy to educate you on their area of expertise.
