Frequently asked questions

We will first start with a 1 page questionnaire to find out what your goals are in martial arts then we will do a one on one new client orientation.  We will have you do some basic martial arts movements to see where we need to strengthen or polish your technique. We will also do some basic stretches as well as hold positions to see how well your "core" is in shape as well as some balance exercises.  Then we will proceed with some basic drills to work your gross motor skills, dexterity, agility, and reaction time.

7th Dan Tae Kwon Do, studied martial arts fitness for over 30 years.  Trained with Eric the Trainer, fitness trainer to the stars like Def Leppard, etc...  Trained with Ernie Kirk of Krav Maga Universal, Trained with Dan Inosanto doing various workshops, seminars, etc..  Trained with FMA Guro's like Jimmy Tacosa-student of Angel Cabales, Leo T. Gaje, Ted Lucay-Lucay, Larry Hartsell, etc.

Free Trial Lesson and questionairre to see if you are a good fit for me and I'm a good fit for you.  After the initial consultation we can go over the investment required to reach your goals and the timeframe to expect to achieve them.

Started teaching TKD classes for my father at age 10, teaching the family sparring classes on Saturdays and Demo Team on Sundays then continued training in various disciplines as I got older and higher in rank.

Ages 5-up, Athletes and Non-Athletes, Housewives, Stay at Home Parents, Teens who have been bullied.  Girls and women who have been assualted, beaten, etc... I prefer though to work with Adult and Teens in Pvt Lesson settings otherwise kids younger than 12 can join my regular martial arts classes.

Teaching a Women's Self Defense seminar on anti-abduction, carjacking, and home invasion prevention.

The women loved it we talked about the 3 types of bad guys, and how to identify them, the 3 things the bad guys control and how you can minimize these to be better prepared, the mindset you need to have to effectively defend yourself, why you should never go to a secondary location no matter what.

As well as weapon retention vs a handgun or knife.

I would first ask them how long have they trained, then who they have trained with, and if they are still training.  If they say no very long, or not many people, or can't even name people you can verify on the internet, I would stay away especially if its a ranked system and you are looking to get ranked or certified in. If you aren't interested in getting ranked I would still ask to see their teaching credentials, rank certifications.  As far as the last question if they answer NO, I would look elsewhere as we get more and more new information on training, equipment usage, nutrition, etc...  You might be training using bad habits then.

Why?  The number one reason is Why, Do you want to start training?  Is it to increase flexibility, stamina, endurance, be able to defend yourself, etc... Next question should be asked is how much of a committment can I or will I make to my training?  If its once a week, please choose someone else as not to waste my time and yours.  I am only looking for people committed to at least 2-3 times a week to train.  As habits are formed or broken in 30 days, the more continuous the training the more easily new healthier habits can be formed.
