I started playing tennis when I was 13. I was self taught and played on a college team (Ohio University-Lancaster) for 3 years. In 1977 I attended Dennis Van Der Meer Tennis University in Sweet Briar, Virginia and was certified as an Instructor in the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry. I taught for 2 years for the local Parks & Recreation in Lancaster , Ohio. I have also taught at the college level for a total of 3 years. In 1979 I joined the Army after receiving my B.S.E.D. in Physical Education from Ohio University in 1976. I taught tennis full time for 6 months at California, and Arizona as part of the Western Region Recruiting Command and at Garmisch/Partenkirchen, Germany at the Armed Forces Recreation Center. I have a Masters in Education in 2012.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A graduated method of instruction that starts by the fence or backdrop (if Inside) and then progresses to near the net in stages working back to the baseline to experience near %100 success at each stage before moving on. Each lesson starts with a warm-up conditioning exercise designed for improving strength and flexibility in the shoulders and core. each new lesson reviews the previous lesson in 5 to 7 minutes to keep all lessons in perspective.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was certified in 1977 and have taught every year since then. The Professional Tennis Registry requires periodic course work to stay current with new methods. I have a Physical Education B.S.E.D. and am currently teaching at the Community College level. I have a certification as a Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and teach at the college level. I have 6 years experience including 1500 hours and the coursework to be a certified Athletic Trainer. I am a certified Medical Exercise Specialist and N.S.C.A personal Trainer. i am a certified Beginning Ski Instructor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
A single lesson price is $40.00 and a package of 6 lessons is $30.00 each. If the indoor facility is used the court cost of $30.00 an hour is figured into the price.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching for the Parks and recreation system in my home town in Ohio in 1973.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels and ages individually, and in large groups.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Ihave been a coach for the Jr. Varsity tennis team at St. Louis High and we have only had 1 loss in the past 2 years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look up the type of certification that the instructor has and the the number of years of experience at different levels.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The proper way to practice and create a mind and physical repetition of a stroke and movement.
