Shamel is very patient and knowledgeable about the water. As an adult that set a new goal to learn to swim, he's been very approachable, funny, and yet firm with making sure I reach my goal and I'm comfortable in the water. He gives me things to practice outside of the lesson to make the most use of our time together. He's always on time and accommodating.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We will set up time to meet at facility with goggles and swim wear already on. Shower before entering the pool and BYOT. (Bring your own towel). [email protected]

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Red Cross CPR, first aid and professional rescuer. Swim instructor cert. from Rutgers Univ. Over 20 years of experience coupled with our service to the country. We love teaching and coaching others to inspire each one to teach one. [email protected]

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$ 25 per class per person, we do offer seasonal promotions. No member fees at this time (TBA). Class time is approximately 30 to 35 mins long depending on lesson plan of the day.

How did you get started teaching?

I started back in middle school in the early 90's. Lol. I was blessed to have parents that worked very hard and we lived in the suburbs of New Jersey. Swimming was common to me and close family. Alot of friends and there family never know how to swim; passed away never knowing and that really hit me and i said as long as i have breathe i will teach others how to swim.

What types of students have you worked with?

A full range of client's from pro athletes to scared grandma. We've worked with the handi cap and special needs. Swim coaching to aquatics fitness; you name it we can do it.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Know what you want and make sure that you feel safe and are having fun. Be vocal and speak up, if you dont understand ask them to go over it and over and over till you get it. If they dont do that than you call me. I will.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Make sure that you have the time to show up on time and be committed to class.
