Making music is so much fun and joyful, and that's what my teaching focus is. Anyone can play notes on a page whatever the instrument, but are they making music? Learning an instrument takes patience and dedication, so it also helps with life skills. I focus the lessons at the student's pace, so that learning doesn't create pressure or stress. You will learn music theory ( what music is) and we will play duets, so you learn to play with others. Teaching is my passion and my joy. I have been playing over 40 years. The joy of teaching and helping people achieve their musical goals as well as enjoying many styles of music....

Brandon says, "I've been taking voice lessons with Robert now for almost a year. What I like about taking lessons with Robert is that, while progress can be kind of slow and frustrating at times (depending on the student), change does inevitably come and when it does, it's like singing with a brand new voice. If you're wanting a teacher who listens to you sing songs badly, praises everything you do, and does nothing to resolve any bad habits you've acquired over the years, then Robert is not your guy. But if you want someone who will push you to go farther than you thought possible, then stick with Robert. It's going to take time and work to achieve that sought after "singing voice" but anything worth having always does. I've had three different voice teachers in the past but this teacher is the only one that has made a difference in my knowledge and approach to singing. Try to schedule an earlier lesson because after five or six lessons, Robert does tend to lose his concentration and is occasionally easily distracted" Read more

Your Singing Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are singing lessons?

Singing lessons cost $50 to $90 per hour on average. Prices vary depending on the teacher's location, experience, reputation, and whether you're taking a private or group lesson. Group lessons typically cost less per person than private lessons, but you may not get as much personal attention and feedback in a group setting.

  • Some singing teachers charge a flat rate for a specified increment of time, typically in 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute increments.
  • Many coaches offer package deals to purchase 2 to 10+ lessons at a time and reduce the cost per lesson.

Do singing lessons work?

Singing lessons won't change your sound completely, but they can help improve your sound by strengthening your vocal cords and improving your range and tone.

What do singing lessons teach you?

Singing lessons involve more than just your voice. A vocal coach will teach you how to hold and improve your posture, which gives your diaphragm optimal room to expand. You also learn proper breathing techniques and how to use your breath to improve your tone. Singing lessons also help you improve your diction—the way you articulate your words when singing—as well as your ability to match specific pitches.

Can adults take singing lessons?

Yes, adults can absolutely take singing lessons. While starting singing lessons at a young age gives you more time to develop your voice, it's never too late to begin learning and improve your singing voice.

How do I find the best singing lessons near me?

Follow these guidelines to help you choose the best singing lessons near you:

  • Check out their reviews on Lessons.com and Google.
  • Get at least three estimates from teachers with similar credentials.
  • Ask for recommendations from others in the local music community.
  • Do a trial meeting or lesson if possible with several teachers to find the best fit for your goals.
  • Ask them about their training and credentials.
  • Ask about what specific methods and techniques they teach.
  • Ask about the specific progress they've made with other students.
  • Make sure their schedule matches your availability.

What questions should I ask when choosing a singing teacher?

Ask these questions to help you choose the best singing teacher for you:

  • How long have you been teaching singing?
  • Can you share any success stories?
  • Do I need to have a good voice already to become a better singer?
  • How long does it typically take to see improvement?
  • Do you offer any package deals?
  • What is your teaching schedule?
  • How long are your singing lessons?
  • How often should I practice?
  • Do you offer private or group lessons?
  • Where do you teach?
  • Do you offer online lessons using video calling?

Robert Wendell is a god at voice. He not only knows how to sing and properly use his voice, but unlike most teachers, he studied voice extrenuously, not just copied famous singers or used a natural, god-given gift. It genuinely astounds me that his lessons are only $45 a week ($35 for the second time if you decide to go twice a week), if I were him I'd be charging no less than double that amount. You won't regret a single lesson with him I promise you.

Ms. Hunter taught my middle and high school choir classes at Piedmont Community Charter School. As a musical theatre student in college, I have used so much of the theory and singing techniques to succeed in my new environment. I miss Ms Hunter greatly and would definitely recommended her training to anyone looking to further their knowledge of not only singing, but music theory and advanced technique.
