About
Excellent vocal technique gives the artist freedom to sing in a healthy way in any style of music, for life. The most important part of this is learning how to breath in a way that supports the voice, which affects pitch, phrasing, tension and every other aspect of singing well. Other important aspects are mouth position, interpretation, diction, posture, pronunciation and music theory skills. I take the singer where they are now, whether a brand new student of singing or someone with many years of experience, and apply the technique to one's training.
I particularly love working on musical theatre and classical repertoire, but I am happy to work on any style of music. The technique remains the same. It has been very rewarding to see my students win conservatory scholarships. It is fun and interesting work to help prepare students for auditions including rep selection, mock auditions, preparing applications and videos. I have a network of other professionals who can prepare a student's monologue or create a dance combination as well.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first lesson, we discuss the basics of healthy technique. We also talk about prior training in voice and other instruments. The student will learn the warmup exercises that will start each subsequent lesson. Additionally, we will consider the student’s goals, for example: conservatory admission; role preparation; community theatre auditions; singing for the fun of it!!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 15 years of teaching experience, sang professionally for over 20, have served as Music Director for multiple children’s musicals and evaluate singers on a regular basis as General Director of Opera Theatre of Montclair.
