About this pro

Hello!

I'm a vocal coach with over 20 years of experience successfully helping students achieve their goals.  I specialize in musical theater and pop/rock vocal technique.

My teaching philosophy is that you are the artist.  Your job is to envision your creation.  My job is to help provide you with the tools to create it.  Our lessons will be a collaboration of your ideas and creativity coupled with my ability to help you technically achieve the creation.

There are no "bad sounds" in my studio.  In fact, "bad sounds" sometimes have to happen in order to get the to "good" that you are looking for.  You'll never feel for a second that you are being judged, but rather than you are free to explore and try new things in a supportive and caring environment with no predetermined technical bias.

Want to see the work of some of my students as well as some tips that will help you today?  Visit my Instagram at shannahraevocalstudio.

I'll see you at your first lesson!

What DON'T I enjoy about what I do?  I mean it.  I absolutely LOVE teaching.  When my students accomplish something they have been working on, sometimes my joy is even bigger than theirs!

I enjoy vocal study!  I'm never happier than when nerding out by deconstructing the vocal technique of Whitney Houston or Tim McGraw or Joss Stone or . . or . . or. . .  and then teaching my students how to do it!

When I was looking for a voice instructor, I was looking for someone who truly cared about me and my growth as a performer. Shannah has been that for me and more! She challenges me and supports me in every lesson. Her techniques are healthy, safe, and incredibly helpful. Shannah goes above and beyond helping me achieve goals I set for myself from the very beginning. I feel comfortable trying new things in lessons and I know I am becoming a stronger performer every week!

She really does know her stuff! We worked on techniques to help with range, different breathing techniques, finding out what body parts I really need to loosen up prior to singing that affect my vocals. It all makes SUCH a difference!!! Learned many things, and they Worked!!! If you are looking for vocal coach or need to go back to the basics or want to work on your voice check her out!!

recently started studying with Shannah and I already feel like I know my voice better now than I ever have. The solid technique she teaches allows you the skill and stamina to compete at the New York level. Some of her exercises involve loosening up your body to free up your voice, range expansion, and the importance of vocal placement; I’ve never felt so in control of my voice. Shannah is the kind of teacher you dream of having. The knowledge she encompasses about vocals and her inspiring passion make you want to learn. I’m extremely grateful to have her in my life.
