Heather Robbins Music
About
I offer individualized vocal training to singers of all ages and abilities in a positive and encouraging environment. The focus is on learning the healthy technique necessary for all musical styles, whether you have professional vocal ambitions or simply want to be comfortable singing at karaoke night. I have a Masters degree and 20+ years experience teaching musical theatre, classical, and jazz styles. My students successfully audition for lead and supporting roles in school and community musical theatre productions, for choruses and choral solos, and for college music programs. I believe everyone can sing, and that with commitment everyone can improve their singing. It's such a fun activity and I encourage everyone to sing!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I suggest a 4-lesson commitment up front, as it usually takes a few sessions for new students to become comfortable with the process. After 4 lessons we can assess whether we're working well together and want to continue (most people do!).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Music, with concentrations in vocal performance and pedagogy, from the University of New Hampshire. I've also attended the Bel Canto, Can Belto musical theatre workshops at Penn State. I'm a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have an hourly rate for the initial 4 lessons, and thereafter charge a flat monthly fee based on an annualized tuition. Tuition covers not only the reservation of a weekly lesson time, but out-of-class preparation work, research, special-events planning, and business expenses - I am a self-employed educator and vocal education is my business.
How did you get started teaching?
I had been having vocal difficulties and began lessons with a teacher who sorted out my technique. I became fascinated with the intersection of art and science and psychology and emotion that is the uniquely human art of singing. That's what encouraged me to go to graduate school and put me on the path I'm on now!
