Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I start with a new student-I speak to them or their mom. *if the student is young*. I get to know what level they are at.Why they enjoy acting and what their goals are..If a beginner-we start from the beginning with basic acting exercises and improvisation..if they have experience. We begin from where they are out. Improvisation, Monologue work and possibly scene work and commercial work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was trained in theater and that is an excellent way to learn acting. I then transitioned into On camera work and that is what I do now. I took college classes in Theater and then On Camera Classes in NYC with very prestigious teachers in NYC and on Long Island. I continued to take classes and train even though I have been a coach and an acting teacher for 25 plus years...
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My basic price is 65.00 per hour in person or skype coaching which works well and is just great if you live farther than I go. I actually Facetime on my I phone. This is a very good and very reasonable fee. Right now until March 5th-I have a special going on for new students. If you pay upfront for 3 sessions. you Get the 4th one free.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started in the early 1980's working with preschool children doing a very successful creative drama program. then I started teaching Grade School and HS students in classes in all venues. Dance Studios, Performing Arts Centers, After School programs, Libraries and more
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students that pursue it as a hobby and students that pursue it as a professional career. Many of my students are presently or have worked in Commercials, TV, Film and more. I specialize in young children starting at the age of 5-teens. I have a very upbeat, enthusiastic, fun personality that relates well to children of all ages
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Makes sure they have reviews and experience. Check out their Website and more. Make Sure the coach/teacher NEVER tells you that your child/you will definitely make it in the industry. It is a very tough business and there are never any guarantees. Even if the coach says your child has the look and the talent. I am realistic and very honest. Lots of my students work in the biz. Don't do it for fame or money
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do they want to act
for a hobby or professionally
why if professionally
