I teach not just the violin but music. I provide context. I teach some music theory and music history. I think it helps to understand what you are playing and where it came from. I have degrees in composition and music theory as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy. Also, I really emphasize sound. I think it's so important whether you're learning the violin at 6 or 60. Sound is so magical; it surrounds and stimulates us. You can feel the violin vibrate when you play it! I have been a member of the New Jersey Symphony for 32 years and I have also taught viola at the University level and at summer music festivals. I teach both violin and viola for all ages and levels at my home studio. I enjoy inspiring my students to play with confidence, to achieve their personal goals whether it is auditioning for Regionals or All State, preparing for college auditions or helping adult amateurs get back into playing.
