About this pro

My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in a constructivist approach that balances science, artistry, as well as individual and cultural diversity. By emphasizing evidence-based and culturally-responsive vocal pedagogy, my teaching celebrates the personal, cultural, and psychic identities of each singer. This intersectionality serves as a foundation for liberated artistic expression and, ultimately, complete student-ownership of his, her, or their voice.

Student-centeredness is the basis of a constructivist approach. To achieve this, I facilitate meaningful rapport with all students, taking the time to understand their individual needs as people as well as artists. Moreover, I encourage singers to engage in the process and play leadership roles in their learning. While providing them with skills and knowledge that are proven effective, truly outstanding singing also requires autonomy, artistry, and authenticity.

At my core, I believe in teaching the person before me. Everyone has unique skills, ambitions, needs, and backgrounds—all of which are embraced in my applied voice studio. Lessons celebrate these idiosyncrasies to uplift diversity. Not only is this an effective teaching strategy, but it reflects music itself. Further, it models the respect and equity I hope to inspire in all of life’s arenas.

Taylor is a difficult act to follow because he has a very particular energy- one that supports others so lovingly and is uniquely his.

Taylor got me to enjoy singing with confidence, and that is what made the performance so fun in the end. When looking for a vocal teacher, you always want someone who will make you comfortable and be honest with you, Taylor is both of those things, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
