Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our first lesson usually consists of getting to know you, your voice, and your goals. If you have a piece you'd like to perform for me, great! We'll assess your current experience and skill level and immediately begin working on technique.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 30 years in the music and recording industry. You can find my bio/experience on my website at voxlv.com
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Drop-in rates: $40/30min and $60/60min
Monthly flat rate: $99/month for weekly 30min lessons; $190/month for weekly 60min lessons
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching/assisting as a teenager at my mother's performing arts studio, so I've always known that I would end up teaching someday. Once my husband and I started our family, I opened my own studio. Now, as a mother of four, I am blessed with the ability to teach full-time and continue to work in the recording industry.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages; children and adults. All skill levels, beginner to professional. I had a bright student who was only 3yrs old who went on to become a featured artist with Radio Disney. I worked with a man in his 60s who was recording an album and performing in his own cabaret show in NYC. I have coached several professionals in musical theatre. Quite a few rock singers, many pop, r&b, country, and gospel singers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently started offering homeschool programs to homeschool families. As a homeschool mom myself, I know how difficult it can be to find activities for children during school hours. I'm so happy to provide affordable options for fellow homeschoolers who are looking to expand their curriculum.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's important that you find a teacher that is a good fit for you. Someone you feel comfortable with, who can help you reach your goals. Someone who specializes in the style of music in which you are interested.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals? Do you sing as hobby? Do you want to perform on stage? in theater? with a band? or become a recording artist? Which artists do you admire or aspire to be like? Which styles of music do you love to listen to? Which styles do you want to sing? These are things to think about, but if you don't have the answers, that's okay!
