Amba Martial Arts
About
We teach martial arts because it is our family's passion. All classes are led by adults and all have the same last name, Amba.My wife, Joji, and my son, MJ, help me lead the classes and my daughter, Jasmine, and my two grand kids, Jaden and Jacob, are also students.
No other school has produced as many national Sport Martial Arts champions as Amba Martial Arts, producing over 20 national champions in sparring and traditional kata.
Everything is earned. Far from a belt factory, we only have tests four times per year. But, not everyone tests every quarter.
Although, we teach self defense and bullying defense, our ultimate goal for our students (be it child or adult), is to be good community citizens.
My work combines my two passions, helping others and martial arts. Seeing someone succeed, and to know that you played a small part of it, is an incredible feeling.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
No pressure. We let them either watch the class or participate. We offer two free classes. If they are attending class, we ask that the whole class come over and introduce themselves to the student. We also pick out a qualified student to help them through the class. We provide the student with information about us, as well as our expectations and what they can expect. We would rather they try out a couple of classes before making a commitment. We would rather have students in class that really want to be there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Black Belt.
7-time national martial arts champion.

How did you get started teaching?
Having worked in retail, advertising and marketing management for over 30 years, it is something that I am used to doing. So when I achieved my black belt, it was a natural transition to helping others achieve their goals.
What types of students have you worked with?
From the age of 3 to 63. Some who have mental or physical challenges to those who have a lack of self confidence to some that are over confident.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our belt tests are my favorite, because I am able to see students overcome their fears and limitations through perseverance.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you hire someone who truly cares about you and your growth.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think more than anything, instead of simply asking questions from the instructors, ask the parents and students.
