Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I let a new student bring a song they like and want to learn, maybe let them play with it and then develop the best strategy to improve and get to where they want to be. Every student is different, yet there are some techincal baselines every drummer should be able to rely on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Pop/Jazz and didactic studies and and Masterdegree in Performance studies from the A.Bruckner University in Linz, Austria.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge $70/hour at my studio in gowanus and $80/hour if I travel to my student. Bulk rates: 10 lessons w $10 off each are possible.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught students on and off ever since I was 20 years old and I often gave masterclasses and workshops during tours in various different colleges and high schools over the past 10 years. Both of my parents were teachers, so the aspect and importance of a good education and passing on knowledge I always held in high regards.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly older students like teenagers and grown ups, from beginner to college level.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone that is able to pick you up where you are, is open to all kinds of music and wants to help you get better at what you want to learn and/or achieve in music.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I want to get out of playing my instrument? Just fun or maybe more of a challenge as well? Do I have a practice opportunity somewhere? What are alternate options to practice / work / improve if you don't have access to a rehearsal space? How much time am I willing/able to dedicate?
