About

Hello! I’m Carli. I love sharing what I have learned over the course of 20 years of singing and studying the voice.

Singing is a uniquely human form of expression that we all have access to. My philosophy is that everyone can sing! I believe that singing is one of our freest and most powerful human forms of expression. The same as laughing, crying or dancing; I believe it is a primal instinct. I believe that everyone can and should sing!

Carli really helped me release a lot of singing tension and increase my dexterity and control. Everyone I know has noticed huge improvements in my singing since I started taking lessons and it continues still!

Carli is a wonderful music teacher all around! I had my first ever voice lesson with her and she created a really safe space for learning, has a holistic set of techniques, and the expertise to teach at a range of levels. Highly recommend!

Carli was such a treat to work with. Im a musician but Im not confident in my singing voice. She met me where I was and helped me develop as a vocalist. Its always a little awkward singing in front of someone but she made me feel comfortable and much more confident. I highly recommend working with Carli!

Carli is patient and knowledgeable as a teacher, working both to strengthen what capability I have already and create comfort in areas of my voice that are weaker. She is thorough and helps concepts truly click for me!
Practicing what I try in our lessons in my day-to-day has made my singing much more comfortable and pleasant. Im grateful for the chance to work on my voice in a safe and nurturing environment with Carli.

The reason I decided to start taking singing lessons was to work with the anxiety that arrises when I even think of myself singing. With that being said I think Carli was the perfect person to help me. The atmosphere she creates in the lessons is so relaxing and playful. Another thing that I liked was that each lesson felt like it was perfectly tailored for my current situation and we’d switch things up because she would think that different exercise would help me understand the point she was trying to get across better which to me shows that her knowledge comes from experience and not just theory.
Thank you for amazing lessons Carli!

    Frequently asked questions

First we will chat about your experience and goals with singing. Then I'll have you sing a short song of your choice right off the bat to break through the nerves and see where we are starting! :) From there I'll introduce concepts that are new to you, usually starting with the physical aspects of breathing for singing and the basics of the different vocal registers. Then we can work on letting go of tension and building strength and muscle memory. Some students also learn music theory and sight-reading. My approach is centered around physical freedom, but each student's particular challenges and strengths are different!  Some students need to let go of tension, some students need to build strength and courage. Singing is actually a natural reflex, so we work to get back to what's natural and then to build a sense of mastery! I'd love to help you get to know all the sensations in your voice and eventually be able to consciously control them. I implement techniques from yoga, acting for stage, speech therapy, opera, musical theatre, contemporary music, and more.

I started studying the voice and taking lessons at age 12. I recieved my BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Arizona where I trained in classical technique in the opera program for a year before training in musical theatre technique for 3 more. I was also in competetive choirs throughout highschool and college where I studied sightreading and music theory. I am now a professional singer songwriter and recording artist in Brooklyn, New York and Phoenix, AZ.

Along with this training, I also implement techniques I picked up from my time in speech therapy (after a vocal injury), from training for stage acting, and from my yoga practice (breathwork and physical freedom are huge parts of singing!)

I charge $60-80 for a 55 minute lesson, this is on a sliding scale based on what feels affordable to you.

I started teaching in 2019 after receiving a few requests, and I've been loving learning from lessons just as much as sharing what I know.

I mostly work with adult-beginners who are looking to sing for the first time, or who have done some singing but are looking for more control and consistency with their voices.

I also have students who are already singing in bands or professionally, but who want to understand how to navigate their voices more intentionally, broaden their range, or free their voices from tension or habit.

What are your goals with singing? What are your fears with singing? I always encourage students to come in with a playlist of songs they want to work on!
