Hello and welcome to my music studio. My name is Kimberly Walton, and I have over 20 years of experience teaching private lessons and group classes virtually and in person. I am based in New York City, and I love teaching all types of music, from voice and piano lessons to songwriting and music theory. I love dance. I love to teach it, do it and I really enjoy seeing my work executed. I have been teaching tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, reggae Dancehall, and Afrobeats for over 20 years and choreographing routines for solos, groups, children and adults. Hi! I teach private lessons in acting, singing, guitar, piano, violin, cello, and bass. I love giving private students the tools to reach their goals and I like seeing the joy in their faces when they accomplish something new. I hold my students to high standards and I set high expectations.

I offer a fresh perspective on the role of the music teacher. I'm certainly here to help my students learn the fundamentals, but I believe in a why-first approach to lessons. If I can't clearly articulate the reason why we're doing something and the impact it will have on a student's progress or understanding, then we don't do it. Nothing is arbitrary, and every moment is useful. I try to make sense of things by observing the patterns and relationships at play in the world around me, and I often employ this approach in my curriculum.
