Nicolai Actor Coaching
About
I'm a graduate of NYU Graduate Acting, so I've been through the entire graduate school audition process with multiple schools. I've seen thousands of auditions and actors, and have a great depth of knowledge of material and what 'type' of monologue could work best for you. I only take on two to three clients a year, and my client from this past January was just accepted to Old Globe/USD, after multiple callbacks - so I have faith we're doing something right.
I've worked at the Public Theater and on Broadway, as well as CBS and Amazon. If you need help with TV/film auditions, I know that environment well, too.
Just making actors feel confident. Giving them a great foundation, and helping them feel relaxed and prepared for any audition scenario they walk into.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depends entirely on where they're at. If we're starting from square one, we'll select at least four monologues - both dramatic and comedic, classical and contemporary - and go from there. We'll work a couple monologues each session and slowly get more and more specific with each of them until they're fully realized and come like second nature. We'll continue playing and refining after that.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked at numerous New York and regional theaters, including Broadway, The Public, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Milwaukee Rep, Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, etc. I've also directed, produced, and worked in casting offices.
My MFA is from Graduate Acting at NYU, where I worked with the best teachers in NYC (and the world), many of whom teach at Juilliard, as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30/hr, and this includes free space at NYU Graduate Acting. You won't have to worry about reserving space any more.
How did you get started teaching?
I've been helping younger actors for years; I started when I was touring in New Jersey with the Shakespeare Theatre.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly post-undergraduate, ranging from 23-35 yrs. old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was very proud when my client Carlos was recently accepted to The Old Globe MFA program at USD.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who allows you to be you - who helps you find what excites you, and doesn't tell you what's 'right' or 'wrong' but gives you options.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It ultimately boils down to how serious your pursuit of this thing is. If you're resolved, and willing to put in the work, then reach out.
