Ballet is my life, and being able to pass it to other generations is such a blessing to me.
I am Etrita Abdullahu, I'm from Kosovo and I'm 21 years old.
I started ballet when I was 9 years old, and since then I've been following this path with passion and love that just keeps growing, as it's taking me down to a very exciting journey.
When I was 15 I started working with the National Ballet of Kosovo, I danced with them for 7 productions and we had shows almost every week. I won the Grand Prix in an Arts Festival in Dubai. I won a scholarship at Fini Dance Festival in Italy to come to New York and train with Joffrey Ballet School for two weeks.
Eager to learn more, have more experiences and improve my technique, I decided to come to New York to audition. After many auditions I got accepted at ABT summer intensive, I got offered an 80% scholarship for Joffrey Ballet School summer intensive and 50% scholarship for their trainee program, and I got accepted at Marymount Manhattan College as a BFA Dance Major.
I decided to do both ABT's and Joffrey Ballet School's summer intensive, and I also decided to do the trainee program with Joffrey Ballet School for a year.
Currently, I'm on my second year of the trainee program with Joffrey Ballet School. I'm learning a lot, and I would love to pass all my knowledge to students who love ballet and want to learn more for this beautiful art form.
I had a small ballet studio when I was in Kosovo, I had so much fun working with kids of different ages, I was so attached to them, even after a year I still keep connection with them, and support them on whatever they choose to do.
I also teach ballet to kids 5-11 years old, and contemporary to teens 14-17 years old at a studio in New Rochelle. I love those students, I'm very grateful that everytime I go back there the students are happy to see me just as I am. I also taught some adult ballet classes for that studio, and those are some of my favorite classes, I get so inspired when I see women of middle age and even older keeping themselves on shape, and doing it while having fun and enjoying the class.
