Q & A

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We email back and forth to determine what exactly the studen is looking to learn. We either book private classes or fit them into one of our existing public classes.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I went to Peter Kump's NY Cooking school, now The Institute of Culinary Education, and have been teaching cooking classes for 22 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Our regularly scheduled classes are mostly $125/person. Private classes start at $275 for one person plus $75 for each additional person, plateauing at $135/person. We can accommodate groups of up to 20.

How did you get started teaching?

I first started teaching at Williams-Sonoma and quickly discovered how much fun it is!

What types of students have you worked with?

What type haven't I worked with! People have come to me from around the globe and of all ages!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

For a recent Shop & Cook class, we went to Chinatown to shop for ingredients for our Thai menu. Once we returned to the restaurant, we had a fish sauce and sriracha tasting, then got cooking on Chicken Satay, Tom Kha Gai, Green Curry Chicken, Coconut Rice, Pad Thai and Coconut Tapioca Pudding. Delish!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Let us know what you'd like to learn! We have a breadth of knowledge that spans the globe and also focuses on the most important basic techniques. We love to cook EVERYTHING!
