About

Emily teaches private lessons in Voice, Violin, Piano, Ukulele, and Guitar. She has ample experience teaching all ages (pre-k to adult).

Her teaching philosophy revolves around fostering a sincere love of music and encouraging students to see their musical abilities as a form of self-expression. She believes that music introduces students to the PROCESS of learning and setting attainable goals. We live in a very “result-oriented” culture and music encourages a love of self-improvement as well as an understanding of personal growth that transcends the barriers of pre-conceived success. Music is a way for students of all ages to learn the appreciation and love of hard work and commitment without the pressure of attaining a tangible result.

I started taking piano lessons from Emily Rose about 2 years ago. I had recently retired and had never played any musical instrument at all. Emily is a knowledgeable teacher who is also patient, encouraging and friendly. Emily helped me get thru the basics, which was not easy, and continue to grow and learn

Our 10 year old daughter started with Emily 1 1/2 years ago and our experience with her has been phenomenon. She has given our daughter confidence not only to sing but to talk in front of others whether they be adults or kids. Ms Rose is great with our daughter. They have an excellent rapport together. According to our daughter she is easy going and fun but very strict with the lessons. The way she presents the lessons makes our daughter look forward to the next lesson. We have heard her sing and she a superb Mezzo Soprano. Our experience with Emily Rose has been so successful that my daughter is starting to learn the guitar with Ms Roses guidance.

Emily is a wonderful teacher! Although my son is very shy, he felt very comfortable being taught by Emily. Her method of teaching is extremely effective. After a few months of lessons, my son was playing full songs and really had an understanding of the piano.
Emily also gave a few violin lessons to my other son who is 7. Just two lessons and he knew so much and understood where the notes on the violin were. I even recommended Emily to my niece in Oregon for her violin lessons. Wonderful teacher!

Frequently asked questions

Voice:  We typically spend a few minutes discussing experience and goals.  Every lesson begins with at least 10 minutes of warm ups.  These are exercises for you to practice on your own to better understand you rinstrument and condition your voice.  Then we will work on repertoire.  For first lessons, I may ask you to bring something you are comfortable singing.  If you are at a loss, we will begin a song together so I can intrduceyou to my process of learning a song.

We will discuss breath, suport, resonance, stamina, and expression.  I teach singing from a physical standpoint.  The idea is that we can depnd o nour bodies to support and replicate sounds and not so much on our ears for direction.

Violin:  We will discuss your experience and goals in advance.  We usually start with scales and exercises that pertain to the repertoire we would like to ofcus on during the lesson.  I have some easy to remember tricks and techniques for beginngers that make position a breeze.

Guitar: I usually take beginning to intermediate guitar studfents that are looking for a solid foundation in rhythm, reading, and early lead work.  I am not a shredder myself, so I usually point metal lead guitarists another way.  I do have some great recommendations for teachers, so let me know!  We will begin with introducing tab and staff reading and connecting them with solid fretboard mapping skills.

Piano:  I never use the same book for all of my piano students.  We often have a combination of skills we are working on at the beginning of piano playing.  I try to introduce throy as early as possible, and get young students learning chords soon.
