Megan W. says, "Jen is an amazing instructor who can help bring yoga to any person wherever he or she may be in ability. She is a compassionate, warm, funny and sincere person. I felt completly welcomed, accepted and put at ease during our first session. When I first started working with Jen 5 months ago at 390 lbs, I was uncomfortable in my body and could get down to and up from the floor with much invested effort. I could stand only for short stretches of time. Now, my flexibility and strength have increased and doing yoga is my weekly highlight. No more stress about floor work. I ask for it. Jen customizes each week to what would best serve me for the type of week I have ahead. We started at 50 min sessions. Now I am doing 90 min and the time flies by so fast. It is so fun to watch my abilities and confidence grow under her guidance!" Read more

WELCOME!! Thank you for landing on my page! My name is Felicia Hilscher and I am the Founder of Java Yogini, LLC. I am a Yin Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner who focuses on women’s health and wellness (but all are welcome to practice with me). My intent in studio yoga classes, private yoga sessions, small group workshops and Reiki sessions is to hold space so you can find what you need in that moment and carry that feeling away with you. Endometriosis brought me to my mat and became my fuel for sharing the love, self-acceptance, and healing I found in the practice with others. I found yoga after being diagnosed with Endometriosis at the...

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.
